Adelaide Stewart Kelley of Bartville died at home under hospice care on Wednesday, February 5, 2014. She was 98. Mrs. Kelley was born in Colerain Township, a daughter of the late James and Katherine Scott Stewart. She and her husband ran a dairy farm and raised five children. After retiring from farming, the couple moved to Quarryville and Mrs. Kelley began working as a nurse's aide at the Quarryville Presbyterian Retirement Community. She retired from that job when she was 76. Mrs. Kelley enjoyed her garden, bowling with friends, traveling in the country, social events, attending Calvary Independent Baptist Church, Quarryville, and spending time with her family. In her later years, she was an avid card player.
She enjoyed the warmth and companionship of the Quarryville Senior Center. Mrs. Kelley is survived by four daughters, Grace Ochoa of Staunton, Va., Nancy, wife of Charles Vann of Bessemer, Ala., Dotty Lovell of Bartville, and Alice Eidson of Homeville; her son, Thomas, husband of Cathy Kelley of Fruita, Colo.; 11 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. Her husband, Thomas R. Kelley, died in 1981. Three brothers, Scott Stewart, Walter Stewart, and Everton Stewart; her twin sister, Claire Samuelson Smith; and a granddaughter, Beth Eidson, are also deceased. Friends may call at Reynolds Funeral and Cremation Services, 144 E. State St., Quarryville, from 10 to 11 a.m. on Wednesday, February 12. Services will be held from the funeral home at 11 a.m. on that date with Pastor Daniel Crisman officiating. Burial will be in Union Cemetery. Please omit flowers.
