Two students assaulted several teachers who were trying to break up a fight at Providence Elementary School at 3:47 p.m. on December 19, Trooper Joseph Chupick reported. The students were a 10-year-old boy and an 11-year-old boy, the trooper said. The teachers were injured in the incident, the trooper said. District officials would not say how the students would be punished for the fight. "The disciplinary sanctions are considered part of the students' educational record which is protected under FERPA [Family Educational Rights Privacy Act] laws," district spokesman Keith Kaufman wrote in a text.
Despite several requests, district officials would not say how many teachers were injured or how severe their injuries were. State police also reported the following incidents in the Southern End: BART TOWNSHIP COLLISION - There were no injuries in a one-vehicle collision on White Oak Rd. at 12:35 p.m. on December 21, Trooper Evan Buhrer reported. According to the trooper, Janelle C. Herschberger, 52, of Quarryville, was driving her Honda CRV west when she lost control of the compact SUV in a large puddle on a curve in the road. The Honda ran off the road and hit a utility pole. Herschberger was not cited for the collision, the trooper said. COLERAIN TOWNSHIP COLLISION - One driver was hurt when a compact SUV and a van collided on Kirkwood Pike south of Farmdale Rd. at 7:46 a.m. on November 30, Trooper Matthew Wecksesser reported. According to the trooper, Timothy W. Mendenhall, 41, of Kirkwood,w as driving north and slowed to make a left turn into a driveway. A 17-year-old girl was driving behind him, became distracted, and did not see Mendenhall's van slow. Her Nissan ran into the rear of the van, the trooper said. The girl was taken to Lancaster General Hospital for treatment of what were believed to be minor injuries; she was cited for careless driving, the trooper said. EAST DRUMORE TOWNSHIP COLLISION - There were no injuries in a one-car collision Buck Rd. (Rt. 372) west of Hopkins Mill Rd. at 9:48 p.m. on December 14, Trooper Darrio Parham reported. According to the trooper, the driver of a westbound car lost control of the vehicle. The Mercury Topaz crossed the road and hit an embankment. The driver and the front seat passenger fled, leaving the car's owner in the back seat. The car is owned by Dillan Mellott, 25, of New Providence, the trooper said. EDEN TOWNSHIP DRUGS - Luis Antonio Torres, 38, of Mount Joy, was charged with possession of a small amount of marijuana and drug paraphernalia following a traffic stop on Stony Hill Rd. at May Post Office Rd. at 8:04 a.m. on December 22, Trooper Nicholas Long reported. According to the trooper, Torres was stopped because his vehicle had no inspection or emission stickers. Torres was also charged with driving on a suspended license, the trooper said. LITTLE BRITAIN TOWNSHIP COLLISION - There were no injuries when a pickup and a van collided at the intersection of Noble Rd. and Spring Hill Rd. at 1:58 p.m. on December 12, Trooper James Woods reported. According to the trooper, Jay R. Brenneman, 60, of Quarryville, stopped on Spring Hill Rd. and pulled out from the stop sign. Brenneman's pickup collided with a van being driven north on Noble Rd. by Roger J. Serfass, 72, of Christiana. Brenneman was cited for a stop sign violation, the trooper said. MARTIC TOWNSHIP COLLISION - There were no injuries in a one-vehicle collision in front of 1140 Holtwood Rd. (Rt. 372) a 1:55 p.m. on December 18, Trooper Kurt Goldbach reported. According to the trooper, Dwight H. Holmes, 30, of Windsor was driving east when he lost control of his pickup. The truck ran off the road and hit two mailboxes. Holmes was cited for failing to drive on roadways lined for traffic. PROVIDENCE TOWNSHIP HARASSMENT - Stacy Lynn Garver, 44, of willow Street, was charged with harassment after she allegedly hit a 45-year-old man in the back of the head during an argument at 337 Snyder Hollow Rd. at 12:06 p.m. on December 16, Trooper Chad M. Dohner reported. THEFT - A Dennis Dr. resident responded to a fishing email offering online PC support and provided her credit car information to the person sending the email, Trooper Joshua Linamen reported. The incident occurred on December 13. THEFT - Someone stole a three-foot-tall pine tree from 523 Camargo Rd. on December 23, Trooper Timothy Richartz reported. VANDALISM - Someone broke out a side window and a front passenger window of a vehicle parked at 1581 Rawlinsville Rd. between December 15 and 24, Trooper Timothy Richartz reported. FALSE REPORTS - State police are investigating a report of sexual harassment that proved to be false, Trooper James Woods said. The incident was reported on December 9. COLLISION - There were no injuries when a car and a pickup collided at the intersection of Schoolhouse Rd. and Lancaster Pike (Rt. 272) at 4:31 p.m. on December 26, Corporal Philip Strosser reported. According to the corporal, Philip E. Probst, 21, of Quarryville, stopped on Schoolhouse Rd. and then pulled into the intersection. His car collided with a pickup being driven south on Rt. 272 by Christian J. Weder, 21, of Willow Street. Probst was cited for a stop sign violation, the trooper said. COUNTERFEIT - William Wade, 55, of Baltimore, Md., was charged with possession of instruments of crime and forgery on December 17, Corporal Philip Strosser reported. According to the corporal, police stopped a vehicle driven by Natasha A. Hunter, 38, of Rosedale Rd., Md. Hunter was charged with driving under the influence of a controlled substance following the traffic stop on Rt. 272 at Mt. Airy Rd. at 1:15 p.m. Wade was charged after he was found in possession of $1,700 in counterfeit money. Wade was committed to Lancaster County Prison in lieu of $5,000 cash bail. Comments are closed.
