If you're a friend in need, Gail Elseroad is a friend indeed.
Elseroad has been both Santa Claus and the Easter Bunny for her friend Paula Ball's favorite charity - Samm's Lymphoma Fight Foundation.
Right now Elseroad, a mother of five and a grandmother, has her bunny ears on.
Ball's daughter Samantha died in February 2016 of lymphoma at age 23. Now Elseroad has teamed up with Ball and other volunteers to support families who have loved ones battling cancer. "(After Samm died) Paula felt helpless. She wanted to do something to make this count. So she's working on creating a (non-profit)," said Elseroad. Elseroad understands. She was also a caregiver for her husband who was battling disease.
"We want to give normalcy to other families, help them buy gas and groceries," explained Elseroad. Samm's Lymphoma Fight Foundation held a food drive last year to help families impacted by cancer. They donated those canned goods to Union Hospital's food pantry.
At Christmas, Elseroad, who is vice president of Samm's Lymphoma Fight Foundation created a small scale fundraiser. She wrote letters to children from Santa Claus. Now that it's Easter, she's doing that again, this time creating handwritten letters from the Easter Bunny. Elseroad wrote letters to her children when they were younger and she enjoys working behind the scenes to help the foundation.
"Kids love getting that letter in a mailbox. I encourage them to have good behavior and try to instill a sense of wonderment. I don't promise anything," said Elseroad who explained the anatomy of a letter from the Easter Bunny.
She has already quadrupled the number of letters she wrote at Christmas for Easter. Deadline to receive a letter for your child from the Easter Bunny is April 8. Cost for a letter is $5 and is payable in cash or through Paypal at email@example.com. Please include your child's first and last name, address, gender, siblings, pets, friends, and any Easter plans your family has. You may also find more information about Samm's Lymphoma Fight Foundation on facebook.
The foundation will also have a dunking booth fundraiser at Sunfest in Rising Sun. The organization will also have a Beef and Beer this fall.
