Solanco's softball team is knocking the cover off the ball. The Golden Mules have scored 67 runs in their last three games including a total of 39 in two wins last week. Solanco (3-1) clobbered visiting Ephrata 20-0 in three innings Wednesday, April 3. Winning pitcher Sierra Dean belted a three-run homer to highlight Solanco's 13-run first-inning outburst against three Ephrata pitchers. Kara McClune and Becca Foulk each blasted a homer in the second inning.
Skyla Townsley had two hits in the first frame and knocked in a run. Hanna Phillips clubbed a three-run triple. McClune, Jade Eshelman, and Taryn Britigan each drove in a run with a single. Foulk walked and doubled. Kendal Janssen led off the second inning with a walk and McClune followed with a two-run roundtripper over the centerfielder's head. Townsley recorded her third hit of the game and wound up scoring on Dean's two-run triple. Foulk followed with a shot that skipped past the shortstop and scooted between the outfielders for a home run. Janssen later added an RBI triple. "We hit some line drives and some hard groundballs up the middle," Solanco coach Brett Miller said. "Obviously, some got by and a double became a triple and a triple became a home run. We faced three pitchers and faster pitchers coming in might have helped. For a young team [opposing three pitchers with [varying velocity] can really be challenging sometimes. I thought overall we did fairly well with that." Solanco upended visiting Conestoga Valley 19-9 in five innings Monday, April 1. The Mules led 12-3 entering the fifth inning before the Buckskins temporarily got back into the game by rallying for six runs. "I guess with the youthfulness we like to be generous a little too much," said Miller. "We've worked on that. We've been swinging well and [CV had] some decent pitching." Solanco put the game away with a seven-run uprising in the home half of the fifth. Eshelman hit a homer and had three RBIs. Dean was 3 for 3 and knocked in four. Fould doubled and drove in four. McClune collected a hit and three RBIs and Townsley added a hit and a pair of RBIs. Britigan supplied an RBI hit and Jannsen also knocked in a run. Phillips produced two hits. Comments are closed.
