Solanco's girls basketball team concluded the season with a 53-37 loss to host Ephrata Tuesday, February 3. The playoff-bound Mounts proved too tough a task for the Mules on a night where Ephrata honored their seniors and star Kelly Liebl reached the 1,000-point milestone. Solanco's Taylor Stitz had a huge night in the final game of her career. Stitz collected 12 points and 15 rebounds, 10 of them coming on the offensive glass. "It's a testament to how hard she works," coach Chad McDowell said. "She does all the little things very well. I was glad to see her end her high school career with a night like that." Sophomore Nikki Boultinghouse recorded eight points, three rebounds and two assists.
Senior Rachel Trout added eight points, two steals and two rebounds and classmate Haley Conklin contributed four points, three rebounds and three steals. Senior Brittany Rhodes registered three points and two boards. Paige Borcky chipped in two points, two rebounds and two assists. Senior Megan Yannutz (seven rebounds) and Jen Eberly (six rebounds) did not score but contributed on the glass. The Mules finished McDowell's first season with a record of 5-17 overall, 4-12 league. It was a four-game improvement over last year. "It's definitely a big improvement especially considering I came on in September and didn't get an offseason with them," McDowell said. "They put in a lot of hard work. hustled, and played with heart." Solanco's JV squad lost 27-23 to Ephrata. Boultinghouse paced the Mules with eight points and Paige Borcky added five. Makenzie Dillinger supplied four and Alyssa Henretty, Jen Eberly, and Sarah Frawley each scored two points. The JV finished the year with a record of 8-10. "The future looks good," said McDowell. "The girls did a good job and were competitive in almost every game." Comments are closed.
