The Solanco boys track and field team topped Lampeter-Strasburg 84-66 Tuesday, April 22. Toby Kreider and Billy Cooney each won two events to pace the Mules. Kreider won the triple jump (41-0) and long jump (19-10 1/4). Cooney captured the high hurdles (15.7) and intermediate hurdles (43.1).
Robbie Hassel earned his first win in the 100 meter dash (11.8) and Noah Brady came away with a win in the 1600 meter run (4:50). Brady, Alex Munro, Kyle Munro, and Liam Hodgson teamed to take the 3200 meter relay (8:40). Hassel, Troy Berry, Prosper Eguzouwa, and Josh Bailey combined to win the 4 x 100 relay (46.9). Berry won the high jump (6-0). The Mules also fared well in the throwing events. Eight Solanco athletes earned a personal best including Kyle Williams who won the discus with a toss of 109-2. The team continues to improve and is learning how to compete," coach Ivan Haines said. "We are looking forward to the big meets to come." Lampeter-Strasburg scored an 80-70 win in the girls competition. "The girls’ team fought a hard battle against a good team from L-S," said Haines. "They did not give up which is what I like about this group of girls. With two key athletes sick, Natalie Crum and Abby Yoder, the team put up a good performance." The Mules' throwers earned 24 out of a possible 27 points. "These girls have made great improvement this year," said Haines. Ashley Mundorff triumphed in the shot put (31-0) and Cameron Trimble prevailed in the discus (93-6). Emily Conklin earned a first in the javelin (109-9). Jen Eberly won both hurdles events, winning the high hurdles in 16.7 and intermediate hurdles in 49.4. Morgan Perry earned her first win in the 3200 meter run (5:46) and Natalie Crum recorded a win in the 800 meters (2:29). Brooke McCardell cleared 10-6 to take the pole vault.
