The Solanco boys track and field team topped Ephrata last Wednesday while the girls lost to the Mounts. The Mules won the boys competition 90-60. "The boys’ team really came through last night with their second win of the season," coach Ivan Haines said. "They have been working hard to prepare for this meet and will continue to do so. We were able to outperform them on the track."
Solanco's sprint team swept both the 100m and the 200m and the 110 hurdles. Prosper Equzouwa won the 100 followed by Troy Berry and Robbie Hassel. Josh Bailey took the 200 in front of Equzouwa and Gary Doubts. Billy Cooney continues to run well in the hurdles, earning a double win. He has qualified in the 110s for districts. Also earning a trip to districts were Troy Berry in the high jump and long jump where he finished first in each event and Toby Kreider in the long jump (where he was third) and triple jump (first). Distance runners Noah Brady (800) and Liam Hodgson (3200) both had a first place finish. Kyle Munro prevailed in the pole vault. "All event areas were able to outscore their opponent except the throwers who are steadily improving and picking up points," said Haines. "For being a young team these guys continue to improve and taking one step forward to our team goal. I am really impressed with their improvement. This team has the drive to go far in the section." Ephrata won the girls team competition 107-43. “The girls’ team had a tough time," Haines said. "Ephrata has a good deep team. We could not overcome their strength and depth." The Mules picked up four firsts – including two by Brooke McCardell. She set a personal best in the high jump (4-6) and the pole vault (10-10). Her jump in the pole vault qualified for districts. Freshman Jen Eberly earned a first in the 300 IH hurdles performing a personal best also. Natalie Crum triumphed in the 1600 m. "The girls’ throwers (including Cameron Trimble, Ashley Mundorff, and Haley Conklin), did well as a group and were able to match their opponents points," said Haines. "I am very pleased with the girls’ team performance last night. Many of the girls were able to use the strength of Ephrata to be pushed to earn better performances. A little warm weather goes a long way," said Haines. "With each meet both teams are continuing to improve and are continuing to obtain their goals and earning personal bests. Many personal bests were earned." Comments are closed.
