The Solanco softball team won three of four games last week. The Mules defeated Ephrata 10-0 in five innings Friday, a day after just their second loss of the season. "It was an important game to get back on track after Thursday," coach Brett Miller said. "The girls responded well, were focused and ready to play especially with the pending weather approaching." Solanco was able to beat the weather by ending the game in the fifth on Sam Graver's three-run triple. The rain began to fall in the top of the fifth but the Mules got out of the inning to make it an official game.
The Mules scored six runs in the fourth inning highlighted by a two-run double by Kerri Mauger and a two-run triple by Emily Parmer. Solanco opened the scoring in the third as Parmer doubled and scored on a Graver single. Warwick downed the Mules 7-3 last Thursday. "A combination of missed opportunities and defensive generosity made it very difficult to be competitive," Miller said. Cait Armstrong belted a home run in the first to give Solanco the lead and the Mules upped the advantage to 3-0 in the third. Parmer doubled. With two outs, Maribeth Ault delivered an RBI single and Brittany Fisher followed with a run-scoring double. Warwick took the lead with four runs in the fourth inning. "When you give four, five, or six outs in an inning nothing good is happening," said Miller. Solanco had runners in scoring position in the fourth, fifth, and sixth innings. "We had enough opportunities to win the game," said Miller. "We simply needed a productive at bat or two." Kortnee Kreider pitched a solid game. "Kortnee pitched well enough to win, but when you're searching for the strike zone into the sixth inning, balls will get hit." The Mules mauled McCaskey 21-7 Tuesday, April 22. Solanco scored two in the first, six in the second, eight in the third, one in the fourth, and four in the fifth. The Mules pounded out 18 hits. Armstrong was 3 for 4 with three doubles and five RBIs. Parmer had three hits including a triple and double and three RBIs. Kreider collected two hits including a double and four RBIs. Ault added three hits including a triple and three RBIs. Emma Kreider was 2 for 2 with two RBIs and Madi Sheaffer was 2 for 2 with a triple and an RBI. Armstrong got the win. "We got the result we needed while Armstrong had the opportunity to pitch some innings and we worked some other players into the lineup," said Miller. Solanco nipped Hempfield 5-4 Monday, April 21. The Mules tallied four times in the second inning. Ault led off with a single and Fisher crushed a triple and scored on an overthrow. Kortnee Kreider was hit by a pitch and courtesy runner Emma Kreider was sacrificed to second by Sheaffer, and scored on a Mauger double, Mauger scored on a two-out double off the bat of Parmer. Solanco upped its lead to 5-1 in the fourth. Sheaffer singled and moved up on a sacrifice bunt by Abby Heidelbaugh. She scored on a single by Parmer. "Emily Parmer with two two-out RBIS hits, was big," said Miller. "She has been batting with more confidence and it showed." Kortnee Kreider was able to hold off Hempfield to notch the win. "Kortnee had good velocity throughout the game," said Miller. "She remained very composed in the sixth inning to maintain our lead." Comments are closed.
