The Solanco JV softball team ended the season in style. The Mules exploded for 11 runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to defeat Elizabethtown 11-6 Tuesday, May 6. Solanco trailed 4-0 before rallying. "Our bats decided to come to life," coach Chad McDowell said. "At one point we had eight consecutive hits. We did a really nice job putting the pressure on E-town's defense by putting the ball in play. There is a wise, old saying that 'hitting is contagious' and it sure was for us. I just admire all these young ladies for their perseverance and never give up attitude all season long and it surely was on display in this game. This was an absolutely fun game to be part of and a great way to finish the season.”
Makayla Pluck went the distance to pick up the win. She struck out eight. "Makayla pitched a great game," said McDowell. "She hit her spots well and kept the E-town hitters off balance throughout the game. Makayla had some tough innings lately so this outing was an awesome way for her to finish off the season." At the plate, Pluck was 3 for 4 with three RBIs. Haley Pittman provided two hits including a triple and three RBIs. Bekah Borcky belted two triples. Emily Brown, Kalyn Burger, Brianna Firlein, Albrea Doss, and Kelsey Bastien each added a hit. Pluck and Bastien combined on a no-hitter as the Mules blasted Cocalico 17-0 Monday, May 5. Pluck got the start and fanned three. Bastien pitched an inning with one strikeout. "Both pitchers threw well, with good velocity and location," said McDowell. Bastien was 3 for 4 with an RBI and two stolen bases. Burger collected two hits including a triple and three RBIs. Borcky was 2 for 3 with a double. Leila Redmond recorded a single and five stolen bases. Hannah Pollock supplied a single and two RBIs and Sarah Frawley added a single. Comments are closed.
