by Bud Hart Manheim Central, the District III 5A second ranked team, came to the barnyard and saddled the Mules with a 58-45 loss Tuesday night, January 17. The Baron’s Taylor Funk (28 points) and Connor Hostetter (16 points) combined for 44 of the team’s total points in a two-man show. Central held a 32-17 lead at the half. “We did not execute our game plan defensively and did not work to get high percentage shots on offense,” said Solanco head coach Scott Long. “While the loss is frustrating, I was more disappointed that we did not play with confidence and attention to detail." Dylan Hastings led the Mules with 18 points and 14 rebounds. Robbie McHugh followed with 10. Colin Kilgore and Aaron Constein each added seven and Braden Redcay netted three points.
Hastings went 10 for 14 (71.4 percent) from the foul line, while the team connected on 16 of 24 (66.7 percent). The Mules hosted Cocalico Friday, January 20, and picked up a win, sending the Eagles home with a foggy 57-47 loss. Solanco held a 24-19 lead at the half and never trailed the rest of the way. McHugh was the dominate Mule in this one scoring 22 points, including an eight for 10 (80.0 percent) performance at the charity stripe. He also led the team in rebounds with 13. Constein, who in the third quarter connected on three consecutive triples, ended with 16. Hastings added 11 and both Mike Worthington and Redcay pumped in four. With the exception of McHugh the Mules struggled at the foul line connecting on only 14 of 28 (50.0 percent). Coach Long also complimented Hastings for his game. “Dylan did a great job throughout the game, staying active on the boards, setting up when he could and not forcing bad shots.” The Mules are in the running for a playoff spot as they’re tied with L-S and Garden Spot, all of whom possess an overall 10-7 record. “We have two games this week, both on the road,” added Long. “This will be a big week in terms of post season chances.” Comments are closed.
