Four Solanco wrestlers are headed to Hershey. Dominic Flatt, Chase Charles, Jackson Houghton, and Ronnie Fulton each advanced by virtue of a top four finish at the District III Class 3A Section II tournament at Hempfield High School. "I was happy to have four guys qualify for districts but was also hoping two or three more guys would have finished higher than their seeds and qualify," Solanco coach Tony Mendez said. "The district tournament will be tough but we're hoping to get one or two guys through to states." Flatt (106) was the runnerup after being pinned in the final by Ayden Bertoldi of Hershey.
The Lancaster-Lebanon League champion advanced to the title bout with a 4-3 semifinal win over Ethan Herr of Donegal. It is the third time this season Flatt narrowly defeated Herr. The first two wins were decided in overtime. Charles (126) bounced back from a quarterfinals loss by winning four straight matches to place third. Charles was winning his Round of 8 bout 5-1 before he was turned and pinned. Undaunted, he captured his four consolation matches by technical fall, fall, 13-7, and 7-3. Houghton (113) and Fulton (138) each finished fourth. Houghton won his quarterfinal bout by major decision. Fulton scored a pair of pins to advance to the semifinals and won his consolation semifinal by a major decision. The four Mules will participate in the South Central AAA District III tournament at Hersheypark Arena this Friday and Saturday. Top four finishers move on to the state tournament. Joey Vandegriff (132) went 3-2 in the section tournament to finish fifth. Nate Neuhauser (285) placed fifth and Shaneef Carter (220) was sixth. Two Mules had their hopes dashed because of an injury. Donavan Myers (145) sustained an injury during his first round match Friday night. Nick Yannutz (182) was hurt in practice last week and unable to compete. Solanco was seventh out of 14 in the team standings. Comments are closed.
