Solanco's JV softball team won its final two games to finish the season with a perfect 17-0 record. The Mules edged Elizabethtown 4-1 last Wednesday. "This was a big game for our JV program with our rivals," Solanco coach Chad McDowell said. "It is always a fun game playing against Elizabethtown as they always come prepared to play and we usually have competitive games every time we play. This game was no different. We had some trouble making contact with the ball, especially early in the game. Elizabethtown's pitcher kept us off balance with her speed. We really struggled to figure out her timing. We had to persevere and we had to find a way to win. We were able to take advantage of our speed with smart, aggressive baserunning which allowed us to play a little small ball to get the lead. We finally took the lead for good in the fourth inning." Sierra Dean went the distance to pick up the win. She gave up two hits and struck out 11. "Sierra threw very well," said McDowell. "She had good velocity and location of her pitches."
Skyla Townsley was 2 for 3 with a single, double, and an RBI and she also had two stolen bases. Dean was 2 for 2. Aubrey Sheets tripled and Kaitlyn Dobinson doubled. Gabby Sheets singled and stole a base and Kayla May added a single. "I am very proud of the way we played," McDowell said. "We needed everyone to contribute and everyone did in one way or another. This was a complete team effort and win." On Monday, May 9, the Mules clobbered Garden Spot 20-1 in four innings. Dean struck out seven and allowed one hit. "Sierra commanded the plate and kept the Garden Spot hitters off balance throughout the game," said McDowell. "She kept her ball moving." Gabby Sheets was 3 for 3 with four RBIs. Aleksa Burger collected a triple, stolen base, and three RBIs. May was 2 for 2 with a stolen base and two RBIs. Kelsey Sheets doubled, drove in two, and stole a base. Dobinson singled and knocked in two. Dean had a single and two RBIs. Townsley blasted a solo homer over the left-center fence. Noelle Schneider singled, stole a base, and knocked in a run.
