Solanco baseball coach Tom Fish frequently uses the word "excited" when discussing his team's prospects this spring.
Solanco has been building toward this season for three years and Fish fully expects the Mules to reap the rewards of their preparation. "I'm excited to see what these guys can do," the coach said. "We've given them a lot of instruction. Now they get an opportunity to show what they've learned."
UPDATE: Solanco defeated Lancaster Catholic 3-2 in 10 innings Monday night to advance to the second round of the league tournament.
Trailing 6-0 in a must-win game at Lampeter-Strasburg while mired in a two-week hitting slump, things looked bleak for the Solanco baseball team. Suddenly, the Mules' bats came to life. Solanco erupted for six runs in the top of the fourth and tied the game in dramatic fashion. Solanco's baseball team blanked Conestoga Valley 2-0 last Thursday in its lone game of the week.
Brady Thomas tossed his second shutout of the season. He recorded 11 strikeouts and allowed two hits and two walks. Solanco's baseball team is still in the mix for a league playoff berth.
The Mules won two of three games last week including a big victory vs. Hempfield. Solanco's baseball team stayed in the hunt for a playoff berth by winning two of three crossover games last week.
The Mules nipped Cedar Crest 2-1 Friday. Brady Thomas tossed a complete game and doubled in both Solanco runs in the fourth. Solanco senior Brady Thomas tossed a no-hitter against Lampeter-Strasburg last week to enable the Mules to win one of three games.
Riding high after Thomas' gem, Solanco built a 5-0 lead over Penn Manor Friday, but the Comets came storming back for a 13-6 triumph. Bailey Keys, Joe Murray, and Colin Ewaka each drove in a run to help the Mules jump in front. The Solanco baseball team won a game it desperately needed to win.
The Mules defeated host Elizabethtown 11-1 in five innings Friday. "It was certainly a must-win game for us," Solanco coach Tom Fish said. Solanco (2-4, 1-2 league) scored five runs in the top of the first which would be more than enough support for freshman pitcher Hayden Fox. Solanco's JV baseball team improved to 3-0 with a 9-7 victory over Berks Catholic last Wednesday.
Freshman John Murray was the starting pitcher. Solanco took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first as leadoff hitter Tim Fetterman was hit by a pitch, was sacrificed to second by Dawson Kreider, and scored on a base hit by Sam Buckwalter. Solanco's baseball team put 14 runners on base but could only muster one run in a 3-1 loss to visiting Berks Catholic last Wednesday.
"It was a good ballgame," Solanco coach Tom Fish said. "They are traditionally a strong program. Of the three, this was the best game we've played. We made the plays defensively. We just didn't come up with the big hit. |
