Solanco's volleyball team was swept by Ephrata last Thursday night.
The Mounts triumphed 25-22, 25-23, 25-17. Marissa Grimasuckas paced the Mules with six kills. Rikelle Taylor tallied five blocks and Moria McCarriston served three aces. Solanco's field hockey team split a pair of games last week.
Elizabethtown topped the Mules 3-1 last Wednesday. Casey Foose scored in the second half for the lone Mule goal. Kortney Keller, Julia Dermeester, and Sarah Leverentz each tallied for the Bears. Elizabethtown outshot Solanco 23-2 and had 18 corners compared to two for the Mules. The Solanco tennis team took one of three matches last week.
The Mules lost 5-2 to Penn Manor Friday. Marissa Witmer of Solanco defeated Julia Cox 6-3, 6-2 in the number one singles match. Number three Thea McCullough lost the first set in a tiebreaker, battled back to take the second set 6-2, but lost 10-5 in a decisive super tiebreaker. Witmer and Emily Duvall teamed to down Cox and Cece Minnick 8-4 in doubles. The Solanco girls soccer team earned its first win of the season Saturday.
Senior Taylor Fabian scored three goals and added an assist as the Mules mauled York Country Day School 7-0. Seniors Rauna Curry-Saner and Molly Briggs each added a goal. Sophomore Sarah Sweda and freshman Courtney Myers both also scored. Freshman Grace Kreider recorded two assists. "The girls played well," said Solanco coach Ken Yoder. "It felt good to get our first win. They have been working very hard and it finally got rewarded with a win." The Solanco volleyball team was swept by Garden Spot Tuesday, September 8.
The Spartans prevailed 25-9, 25-7, 25-8. Marissa Grimasuckas recorded five kills to lead the Mules. Rikelle Taylor tallied two blocks. Becca Trout and Sarah Blevins each notched five digs. Chelsea Ressler had five assists. Caroline Beohn paced Garden Spot with 12 kills and Sydney Nichols collected 17 assists and seven aces. The battle for the Lancaster-Lebanon League Section Two golf title is coming down the wire.
Solanco and Lampeter-Strasburg enter the last two tournaments tied atop the standings. The Mules created a tie by defeating the Pioneers by a stroke Tuesday, September 8 at Lebanon Country Club. The Solanco cross country teams participated in their first league meet of the season September 8.
"Coming off of some personal records [the previous Saturday] at the Lebanon Valley Invitational for most of our runners and running in the extreme heat it was difficult to match the same type of effort Tuesday, [September 8]," coach Craig Ausel said. The Solanco tennis team split a pair of matches last week.
The Mules routed Oxford 7-0 last Wednesday. Marissa Witmer, Emily Duvall, and Kaleigh Bays each won a singles match in straight sets. Witmer downed Paige Troutman 6-0, 6-1. Duvall defeated Katie Walton 6-1, 6-0. Bays topped Kaitlyn Bell 6-1, 6-0. It was a frustrating week for the Solanco boys soccer team.
The Mules were walloped by a powerful Carlisle squad Saturday after a gut-wrenching defeat to Lampeter-Strasburg on Tuesday, September 8. Carlisle topped Solanco 7-0 Saturday morning. "Carlisle is a very, very good team," Mules coach Ron Miller said. "They have five players in the Olympic Development Program and it showed." Solanco's girls soccer team lost three games against tough competition last week.
The Mules fell 7-0 Saturday to reigning Section Three champion Donegal. "It was tough for our girls to play against a team like Elizabethtown the night before and come right back against a quality team like Donegal," said Solanco coach Ken Yoder. "The girls showed heart and never gave up in a 10 a.m. game in the rain." |
