It's going to be an exciting season for the Rising Sun girls soccer team. The Tigers return 10 starters from last year's team and have added two dynamic freshmen. Ciara Bartz, the starting goalie before being injured last season, returns. She is being challenged by freshman Mackenzie Smith. "It's been even and a good competition," coach Dylan Aiman said. Reliable veterans Valerie Bragg, Kenze Stockslager, and Allison Backert will be key cogs on defense. Freshman Mikaela Berg will make an immediate impact. Berg, the daughter of Harford Tech coach Matt Berg, will also see time at forward depending on the situation and quality of opponent.
Returning players Taylor Mocknis, Teresa Reid, and Madison Webb are slated to be big contributors in the midfield along with explosive freshman Jackie Ayers. Senior Emily Ball is also part of the midfield mix. Jillian Seay returns at forward. Junior Jackie Barbon, a two-year starter on defense, is moving to striker. The Tigers were 5-7-1 against a tough Chesapeake Division schedule last year. Down in the Susquehanna, Rising Sun's toughest regular season competition will likely come in non-conference games at the start of the season. The Tigers travel to Notre Dame Prep on Friday and host John Carroll the following Friday. "I think our chances of having a successful season are very good," said Aiman. "We have to stay injury-free. We have great individual players and a high level at each position but no individual standouts. We're searching for kids who are going to score a lot of goals." The coach promises the Tigers will be a fun team to watch. "We're going to move the ball," said Aiman. "We're going to play attractive soccer. Real soccer." Comments are closed.
