The Rising Sun boys soccer team is primed for a big season. Coach Ken Ulrich says the Tigers boast a great deal of depth. "We have two good players at every position," he said. Rising Sun will rely heavily on its three captains – back Christian Scott, midfielder Cody Thomas, and striker Michael Catena. Scott will spearhead the defense along with returnee Cal Dymowski. The defense will be playing in front of untested but talented goalkeepers. Junior Bryce Calhoun and sophomore Chris Orr are competing for minutes in the goal. Ulrich said both keepers did an excellent job in a scrimmage. Thomas had a tremendous freshman season before being sidelined each of the last two seasons with knee injuries. "He's looking better than ever," Ulrich said. The coach is also expecting big things from midfielders Kane Watson and Logan Holtman. Junior Brad Alexander returns alongside Catena up top. Newcomer Martin Stillwell will have an impact. "He's the fastest kid on the team and he's also skilled," Ulrich said. The Tigers will almost certainly be a factor in the Susquehanna Division race. "Our big goal is to get back in the Chesapeake Division," said Ulrich. "Even though we know it's more competitive, that's what we want." Rising Sun was 8-6 last year, a mark the upperclassmen will not find satisfactory this fall. "This team has set some lofty goals," Ulrich said. "The captains have been great about pushing guys to work harder. They are serious about their senior year … The potential is there for this team to do well. They play very well together. They pass well but we need to translate that into getting more shots." Comments are closed.
