It was an anticlimactic end to an exciting match. The Perryville wrestling team won the final bout by forfeit to escape with a 33-32 triumph over visiting Rising Sun Friday night. "Every time we wrestle these guys, every time Rising Sun comes into the building, it's always close. It's always tough," Perryville coach Thad Gough said. "Every guy out there knows what he's doing. They're always tough. I don't expect anything different than that when we face them. I'm just happy to get out of here with a win, honestly."
The Tigers' Richie Moore (170) prevailed by decision to put his team ahead 29-21 with four bouts remaining. Unfortunately for Rising Sun, the Tigers had just one wrestler left to compete. The Panthers won by forfeit at 182 to slice the deficit down to 29-27. After a double forfeit at 185, Rising Sun sent out Taylor Cimorosi to take on Perryville's Leslie Patterson. With the Panthers assured of a forfeit win at 285, Cimorosi was put in the unenviable position of having to win by technical fall or pin to give the Tigers a victory. (A major decision would have tied the score, but Perryville would have won by criteria by virtue of more six-point victories.) Dealing with an illness that caused him to miss some practice time during the week, Cimorosi gave it his all and triumphed 8-4 with Patterson able to avoid giving up any bonus points. Kole Dobash (138), Hunter Zacerous (145), and Khaleil Mitchell (160) each won by fall for Perryville. Jeff Leonard (126) triumphed by decision. For Rising Sun, Colby Miller (113) posted a pin and Logan Garvin (106) and Silas Filliaux (152) both won by major decision. In addition to the double forfeit at 195, both teams forfeited two other bouts. "This is the effort they put out all year," Rising Sun coach Cory Hall said. "We've got a good group of kids. We just don't have a lot of numbers. We've got seven 126-pounders and we're trying to fill a lineup with 126 pounders. It's tough. Then you have to put Silas all the way up to [152] in order to keep from forfeiting all the way through. But the kids go out, they work, sometimes the tasks are a little tougher, but they go. They show a lot of heart, a lot of courage. They've been fighting all year. We just came up a little short." Comments are closed.
