The Perryville girls lacrosse team had its sensational season end in the region title game for the third straight season. Fallston ousted the Panthers 21-4 Wednesday evening. "They're a Harford County team and obviously, Harford County has a lot more experience with lacrosse," Perryville's senior stalwart Ally Remesch said. "All of their players are a little more experienced that us, so that kind of got us, but I think we played with a lot of heart and hustle."
The Cougars led 7-0 before Taylor Poore scored with 15:51 left in the first half. Fallston had a 16-2 advantage at halftime. "I think the beginning of the game they got a jump on us and my girls, defensively, just got frazzled, which is our little namesake anyway, and we couldn't recover from it" Perryville coach Mary Dunman said. "We just didn't come to play our game, truthfully. I don't think we played the game we played all year. We're here again doing the same thing we did two years in a row. This is the third year. But, hey, we're here. That's all that matters." Junior attacker Sydnie Bjork paced Perryville with two goals. Poore and Bea Muscella each had one. Remesch and Claire Hudson each notched an assist. "I'm so proud," said Remesch, who will play at Salisbury University next year along with her Perryville teammate Poore. "We won the Susquehanna Division title. We beat Havre de Grace for the first time in years. We made it to the regional championship for the third year in a row, and no other county team has come close to that, so I'm really proud of us." Remesch will miss playing for Perryville. "I'm just going to miss the closeness that we have and how much we hustle and work together," she said. "I'm just going to miss that." Dunman says platting better competition will improve the program. "Our positives this year are we beat Havre de Grace, which hasn't been done in nine years," said Dunman. "We beat Havre de Grace. That was a goal. We went undefeated in our own county. We succeeded at the Susquehanna Division. Now we're up in the big leagues, the Chesapeake [next year], and like I told them at halftime, this is what we're going to see every game next year, and we are so happy to be there. And I'm happy for what we saw at the end of the game. I do believe at the end of the game they played their heart out and started playing better." Dunman gets emotional when talking about the Panthers' senior class. "The eight seniors who are leaving have been here for four years, and every year, they one-upped themselves," said Dunman. "We started the legacy with them, and they've shown hard work for four years. What they've done is for four years they've worked hard every year to achieve more and more so what they've given this program is hard work and effort. That's what they've carried on [and] the people coming in, all they've seen is hard work and effort all the way through." Comments are closed.
