The Perryville All-Stars lost 2-0 to St. Mary's American in the first round of the Little League Maryland State Major Division softball tournament Saturday at South Caroline Little League in Preston. Perryville never quite recovered from a deflating top of the first inning. The District 5 champion's first four batters got on a base with a double, two walks, and an infield single, but Perryville was unable to score. Sarah Pender led off the game with a double to left-center but was cut down while trying to steal third base. Krystyn Gardner and Mara Little both walked and Payton Jourdan's infield single loaded the bases. But St. Mary's American pitcher Rachel Eastburn struck out the two two batters to quell the threat.
Perryville also stranded runners on second and third in the third inning and left a total of eight on base in the contest. St. Mary's American tallied a pair of unearned runs in the bottom of the fourth against Perryville pitcher Mara Little. Rachel King got things started with a single up the middle and Lexi Ridgell reached on an error. The runners moved up a base on a wild pitch. Little fanned the next two batters before Louisa Traver was safe when a high and wide throw to first enabled both baserunners to score.
