The Perryville girls clinched their fifth straight region track and field title. The Panthers racked up a whopping 235.5 points to easily outdistance second place Patterson Mill (115). Jarah Cevis, Autumn Estep, and Brooke Doane each won two individual events in the meet held at Kent Island last Thursday and Saturday and completed Monday in Perryville. Cevis captured the shot put and discus and Estep swept the two hurdles events. Doane won the triple jump Thursday at Kent Island and the long jump Monday in Perryville. Alysa Conway captured the 400 and also qualified for the state meet in three other events with second place finishes in both the 100 and triple jump, and a fourth place finish in the 200. Paiton Kelly prevailed in the pole vault. Katelyn Broughman, Christen Dodson, Ellie Kuhn, and Estep teamed to take the 4 x 200 relay. Two other relay teams qualified – 4 x 100 (Broughman, Dodson, Jasmyn Strong, Logan Ewing) and 4 x 400 (Estep, Broughman, Kuhn, Doane). Other Perryville state qualifiers: Erica Scheppelmann (third, high jump; third pole vault), Emani Bell (second, shot put), Natalie Owens (second, pole vault), Dodson (second, discus), Kailee McCutchen (second, 100 hurdles), Taylor Edwards (fourth, shot put), Jasmyn Strong (fourth, 400), and Erin Murphy (tied for fourth, high jump; fourth, long jump). The Panthers' boys team placed fifth after a strong showing Monday, Cage Jones captured the pole vault title at his home pit. Perryville swept the throwing events with Joe Rinehart triumphing in the shot put and Ben Kuhn prevailing in the discus at Kent Island. The Panthers' Alex Hernandez, Zach Buckson, Chris Schuler, and Caleb Robinson teamed to finish third in 4 x 100 relay. Ben Douty, Jacobo Negron, Ben Buckless, and Matt Salvatore were fourth in 4 x 800 relay. Other Panthers state qualifiers: Caleb Robinson (third, 100), Dayvon Montz (fourth, 110 hurdles), and Salvatore (fourth, 3200 meter run). In the 2A region meet at Kent Island, Rising Sun's Danielle Lee advanced to Saturday's state 800 meter run and three relay teams qualified – 4 x 800 (Lee, Julia Herrmann, Emma Wheeler, Arianna Wheeler), 4 x 100 (Madison Webb, Cheyanne Johnson, Mikaela Berg, Asia Hollis), and 4 x 400 (Webb, Berg, Allison Backert, Arianna Wheeler). Bryce Calhoun finished fourth in the triple jump Monday to advance to states. Rising Sun is sending its boys 4 x 100 relay to states for the second straight year (Jacob Cohen, Ryan Hendrickson, Bryce Brown, Colin Cascio).
