Saved by defense. Rising Sun's goalie, Ashley MacFarlane nabbed 19 saves between the poles and the Tigers scored the games first three goals leading the way to a 7-3 victory over North East, at Calvert Regional Park on April 19. "It would (have) been a different game if she (MacFarlane) wasn't in the goal for us," said Rising Sun head coach Rebecca Guethler. "We just love the game and I feel like we really wanted to win this game. So it kind of clicked in our minds that we need to win, we need to hustle, we need to get those ground balls and we need to make better passes and towards the end we started to do that and that is what (gave us) the win," said MacFarlane. North East's Grace Buegel and Makensie Kilby each chipped in a goal for the Indians. Trailing 4-2, North East's Natalie Roten slipped in a goal in the second period bringing the Indians within a point of the Tigers. Rising Sun answered with three additional goals to finish out the game. Rising Sun's Logan Alexander collected three goals for the Tigers. Maggie Palfi scored two goals. Ashlyn Mockins and Meghan Szalak each chipped in a goal. "They just came out and played as a team, we definitely had to call a quick time out just to regroup. It's really just (the) basics, catching ground balls (and) draw control," said Guethler. Rising Sun's strong defense kept the Indians from making any additional movement. "We were applying pressure to them and they (North East) were just falling apart in the midfield and losing those passes and our defense was aggressive," said MacFarlane. "Overall our attack and defense worked really well together," added Guethler. Comments are closed.
