Zana M. Rudy, 80, formerly of Refton, passed away on Wednesday, February 14, 2018, at Brethren Village. She was the loving wife of the late Kenneth E. Rudy, sharing 40 years of marriage at the time of his passing in 2000. Born in Lancaster, Zana was the daughter of the late Andrew and Zana (Vonstetton) Cunningham. For employment, Zana held various positions over the years. She worked at a garment factory, umbrella factory, cleaned homes, worked in the housekeeping department at Quarryville Presbyterian Retirement Community, and she worked at Buck Motorsports Park. She also helped her husband with a lawn mowing business. A talented seamstress, Zana made many wedding dresses, bride’s maid dresses, and made clothing for her children when they were young. She found enjoyment in the outdoors by gardening, swimming, snowmobiling, camping, and visiting the mountains and the beach. She and Ken had a goal of travelling to all 50 states, and she visited all but one. Zana was a volunteer and lifelong member of Refton Fire Hall for 51 years and a member of Refton Brethren in Christ Church for 49 years. Zana was well known for her joy in decorating for Christmas. She also was a wonderful grandmother who loved to spend time with her grandchildren, regularly having them to her home for sleepovers. Zana is survived by her children, Shirley (Thom) Sullivan, Glenn (Mary) Rudy, and Sharon Rudy-Peters, all of Lancaster; grandchildren, Zachary Sullivan, Sheree Beverage, Meagan Burkey, Tami Miller, and Ryan Peters; step grandchildren, Shawn Sullivan, Trisha Sullivan, and Nichole Leaman; 8 great-grandchildren and 3 step-great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her brothers, Joseph and Andrew Cunningham, and a sister, Rose Simmons. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Crystal Rudy, step-grandchild, DJ Riker, and sisters, Sally Homsher and Dot Simmons.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, February 20, at Refton Brethren in Christ Church, 110 Church Road, Refton, PA. Viewings will take place at the church on Monday, February 19, from 6 – 8 p.m., and Tuesday, February 20, from 9:45 – 10:45 a.m. Interment will be in New Providence Mennonite Cemetery.
