Ruth Ann Long McSparran, 87, Solanco graduate died Sunday, September 29

    Mrs. Ruth Ann Long McSparran, 87, passed away at Forsyth Medical Center in Winston-Salem, NC, on Sunday, September 29, 2024.
    She was born on April 26, 1937, to the late Arthur and Harriet (Eshelman) Long in Lancaster County, PA.
    She graduated from Solanco High School. Ruth was also very active and enjoyed many sports. She loved all types of crafts, sewing, and quilting. She was an avid baker who always loved baking cookies and cakes. Ruth was a devoted gardener and a reader. She was a homemaker for most of her life, but she also worked various jobs including working as a school librarian. Ruth was always active in her church, wherever she went, teaching Sunday school and being involved any way she could.

     Along with her parents Ruth is preceded in death by her loving husband, Ray Allen McSparran, six siblings, and her son-in-law Mark Blackburn.
    She is survived by her three daughters Susan (Samuel) Gourley, Sara J. Blackburn, and Mary (Steve) Kindstedt; seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and two sisters.
    A Memorial Service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday October 2, 2024, at Grace Baptist Church, 3305 Peters Creek Parkway, Winston-Salem, NC 27127, with Steve Kindstedt officiating. The family will receive friends prior to the service at the church from 9:30 a.m. - 10:30am.
    A Graveside Service will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Friday October 4, 2024, at Mt. Zion United Methodist Cemetery, 1530 Slate Hill Road, Peach Bottom, PA 17563.
    In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made to Samaritan’s Purse in Boone, NC.
