Paul Mellis Miller of The Glen at Willow Valley died on Friday, January 10, 2014. He was 93. Mr. Miller was born in Erie, a son of the late Pheophon and Anna K. Daniels Miller. He lived in Quarryville before moving to Willow Valley. He attended Rose Polytechnic Institute and earned a bachelor of science degree in chemical engineering from Michigan State University.
During World War II, he served in the U.S. Army Air Corps. He flew more than 70 missions in a B-25 bomber in the Southwest Pacific. He earned a Purple Heart and an AW Air Medal. He was discharged with the rank of first lieutenant. He worked in the investment business in Lancaster and had been a manufacturer's representative dealing in petrochemicals. Mr. Miller was an active member of Union Presbyterian Church, Kirkwood, serving as a Sunday School teacher, president of the men's association, elder, and clerk of session. He was also a member of Mason's Blue Lodge 708, Erie, the Delaware Consistory, Nur Temple, Wilmington and Scottish Rite. He was an active member of the Southern Lancaster County Historical Society. Mr. Miller is survived by his wife of 60 years, Margaret Morrison Miller; his brother, Peter Miller of Huntsville, Ala.; four nieces; and four nephews. Two sisters and a brother are deceased. Services will be private. Burial will be in Union Cemetery, Kirkwood. Memorial contributions may be made to Union Presbyterian Church, 5637 Street Rd., Kirkwood PA 17536.
