Paul L. Snyder, 83, of New Providence, passed away on Friday, May 12, 2017 at the home of his daughter. He was the beloved husband of Joyce L. (Shuman) Snyder, sharing 61 years of marriage together. Born in New Providence, he was the son of the late Sarah Ann Snyder. Paul grew up attending a one-room schoolhouse in New Providence before attending Solanco High School. After high school, Paul went on to work in the field of paving and excavating. He was first employed by J. Miller Eshleman Paving, of Landisville. He then started a business with a partner, Long & Snyder Paving and Excavating. A few years after this he entered another partnership and created Snyder & Mylin Excavating, working there until his retirement in 1999. Paul was a hard-working individual, spending many years working outside during the hot summers in the days when heavy equipment had no air conditioning. In his earlier years, he enjoyed hunting and fishing. In recent years, he started a hobby of building bird houses. He also enjoyed playing cards and checkers. He was a member of PVSA in Willow Street, Ancient Order of Croaking Frogs in Quarryville, and the 7th Ward Republican Club in Lancaster. Those that knew Paul describe him as quiet, polite, and generous. He will be deeply missed.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children, Judy (Joe) Butt, Paul J. Snyder, Cindy (Ken) Snyder, Kevin (Tonia) Snyder, and Steve Snyder, all of Willow Street; 15 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren, and several cousins. He was predeceased by a daughter, Brenda Keysock. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, May 17, 2017, at Dewald Funeral and Cremation Services, Inc., 227 West 4th Street, Quarryville, with a viewing from 1:00 – 2:00 p.m. Interment will take place immediately following the service in New Providence Mennonite Cemetery.
