Martha (Groff) "Marcy" Frutchey, 88, of Quarryville, entered into rest on Tuesday, September 27, 2016. Marcy was the daughter of the late Levi and Jennie (Eckman) Groff. Her husband, William J. Frutchey died in 1999. Marcy graduated from Colerain High School in 1945. She was the first and only woman President of the Colerain Alumni Association. After graduating from high school Marcy worked most of her life in the restaurant industry, working at the former Rhoads Spanish Tavern Restaurant in Quarryville for over 47 years, the former Robert Fulton Inn for 4 years and also the Quarryville Family Restaurant for a year. Marcy started attending Middle Octorara Presbyterian Church at the age of 7 and became a member at 12 years old. She taught Sunday school well into her 20's. She was a member of the Fidelis Bible class, a member of Circle One and also served as an Elder and Deacon. Marcy was a talented seamstress and sang in a Quartet. Among her other passions were square dancing, roller skating and travel. She enjoyed traveling to the mountains but also had the opportunity to travel to 9 countries in Europe, 7 in the Far East, Bermuda and most of the states. Because of her husband’s work she lived in Moline, IL, Middlebury, VT, Catasauqua, Pa and finely settling back in Quarryville. She is survived by a son, Richard, husband of Lynda of Quarryville, a daughter Kathryn, wife of Jeffrey Evans of Christiana, along with Frankle Widjaja, whom Marcy considered a son and his wife, Jehnny and their 2 children of Singapore. Marcy has 4 granddaughters, 15 great grandchildren, a sister, Gladys Gibson, and 2 sisters in law, Lavera and Mary. Marcy was preceded in death by a grandson, Todd Evans, brothers; Melvin and Donald Groff along with a sister, Mildred Reinhart.
Funeral Services will be at the Middle Octorara Presbyterian Church, 1199 Valley Road, Quarryville, PA on Monday, October 10, 2016 at 11:30 AM. A viewing will be held at the church from10:00 – 11:30. Interment will be in the adjoining cemetery. Please omit flowers; contributions may be made to the charity of one’s choice.
