Betty Jane Shoemaker died in Lancaster on Thursday, March 12, 2015. She was 90. Mrs. Shoemaker was born in East Drumore Township, a daughter of the late Irvin and Lettie Risk Herr. She lived in Quarryville before moving to Conestoga View. She was raised on the family farm, and continued to help operate the farm after she was married. After the farm was sold, she worked as a nurse's aide at the Quarryville Presbyterian Retirement Community. Mrs. Shoemaker was a lifelong member of Little Britain Presbyterian Church. She and her husband also served with the Wakefield Lions Club and delivered Meals on Wheels.
She is survived by her daughter, Linda, wife of Michael Hauer; three grandchildren, Stacey, wife of Michael Mummert, Brian, husband of Mary Hauer, and Kelsey, wife of Dustin Martin; and eight great-grandchildren, Zachary, Tyler, Ella, Addie, Katie, Colby, Kalah, and Avalee. Her husband, Harold J. Shoemaker, died in 2012. A daughter, Sandra Feerrar, and two sisters, Marion Linton and Hazel Pownall, are also deceased. Services were held from Little Britain Presbyterian Church at 11 a.m. on Monday, March 16. Burial was in Little Britain Presbyterian Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Little Britain Presbyterian Church, 255 Little Britain Church Rd., Peach Bottom PA 17563.
