Kenneth M. Rutt, 80, of Lancaster, PA, died at his home on October 9, as the result of a fall. He was the youngest son of the late Ira and Rhoda (Mellinger) Rutt. He is survived by his wife, Joan Marie and 3 sons: Jeff (Suzanne) of Strasburg; Dave (Peggy) of Lancaster; Doug (Jackie) of Jacksonville, FL.; one daughter, Vicki (Bob Kensinger) of Schuylkill Haven; a brother, Wilmer Rutt, Chicago, IL; 17 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a brother, Donald. Ken grew up on a small farm near Strasburg and was active in his 4-H club with his brothers. He was a member of the 4-H and FFA team that won the Penn State livestock judging contest multiple times and landed them in two national competitions in Chicago and Kansas City. He enjoyed working, traveling, snow skiing and had a wide variety of careers in all types of farming, construction, real estate, inventing, nutrition research and driving. Ken’s life was marked by hard work, frugality, philanthropy & fun. He generously contributed to many different charities including HOPE International which was founded by his son. HOPE serves families around the world through Christ centered micro-enterprise development.
A memorial service will be held at Mellinger Mennonite Church, 1916 Lincoln Highway East, Lancaster, PA, on Saturday, October 28, 2017 at 11am with a reception to greet the family after the service.
