Helen S. Wagner, 96, of Quarryville, entered into rest on Monday, August 22, 2016. Born in Mechanic Grove, she was the daughter of the late E. Harry and Mabel (Ferguson) Shenk. Her husband, Roy W. Wagner passed away in 1986. Helen graduated from Quarryville High School and went on to get a degree in Education from Millersville State College. She began her lengthy teaching career in 1940, working at several one room school houses throughout the county and finished her career as a reading teacher in 1981 in the Solanco School district. She was an active member of Chestnut Level Presbyterian Church, a volunteer for the Lancaster Historical Society and Meals on Wheels. Helen enjoyed traveling and working in her garden. Surviving her is a son, Donald E., and wife Janice D. of Quarryville, son Gerald S. and his wife Deborah of Quarryville, a daughter Jean E. and her husband Michael Musser of Columbia and son Harry R. and wife Anita of Lititz. Helen has 12 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren and a sister, Catherine Jean Horn of Quarryville.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Joyce W. Aiken, a brother Melvin V. Shenk and a sister, Elizabeth M. Shenk. Services celebrating Helen’s life will be on Saturday, August 27, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at Chestnut Level Presbyterian Church, 1068 Chestnut Level Road, Quarryville, PA. There will be a light luncheon and opportunity to greet the family immediately following the service. Traditional interment will be held privately in the Quarryville Cemetery. Prince St., Lancaster, PA 17603 or the Chestnut Level Presbyterian Church Memorial Fund at the above address.
