Helen Marie Forstrom passed away peacefully on April 25, 2023, following a short illness. Helen was born on February 6, 1928, to Bertha and Norman Johnson of Roxbury, Massachusetts. At the age of 5, Helen was put in the Christian Home for Children in Fort Lee, New Jersey, where she lived through high school. Upon graduation, she went to a business school, but soon afterwards she realized that doing secretarial work was not for her. She then went on to become a licensed practical nurse. It was at that time that she rekindled a friendship with Walter Forstrom who had also grown up at the Christian Home for Children. After a short courtship, Walter and Helen were married on June 23, 1951. As far as Helen was concerned, she had a perfect husband who loved her well for almost 72 years. Because of their backgrounds, some have called it a fairy tale marriage. Helen enjoyed shopping, making crafts, sewing, baking Norwegian cookies, keeping an immaculate house, being the greeter at Williams-Sonoma, traveling internationally, and visiting grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Helen and Walter were charter members at Northern Valley Evangelical Free Church in Cresskill, New Jersey, and they continued to worship there until their move to Willow Valley 13 years ago. Since moving to Pennsylvania, she and Walter have worshiped at Grace Community in Willow Street. She loved and served the Lord Jesus Christ and was ready to meet her Savior. She is survived by the love of her life, Walter, her daughter Janice Frost (Alex), son Wally Forstrom (Carol), daughter-in-law Ellen, 8 grandchildren, and 17 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her son Howard and grandson Erik. The family wishes to express their appreciation to the Lakeside staff at Willow Valley and to the hospice for the tender and loving care given to Helen during the last weeks of her life. A service will be held at 2:00 PM on Sunday, May 7, 2023, at the auditorium at Willow Valley, 300 Willow Valley Lakes Drive, Willow Street, PA 17584. Memorial contributions can be made to Northern Valley Evangelical Free Church, 76 Stivers St., Cresskill, NJ 07626. Arrangements entrusted to Dewald Funeral & Cremation Services, Inc., Quarryville.
