Elvin W. Herr, 89, of Lancaster, entered into rest at his home on Monday, April 11, 2016 surrounded by his family. “Fud”, as he was lovingly known as by family and friends, was born in Lancaster. He was a son of the late Norman and Cora (Warfel) Herr. He and his wife, Marilyn (Young) Herr had celebrated 63 years of marriage in August. He was a veteran of the US Army, serving during WWII. Fud worked and retired as the business manager for the Conestoga Valley School District. He was a member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, Willow Street Lions Club, Slumbering Groundhog Lodge, and the Quarryville Rod and Gun Club. In his earlier years, Fud enjoyed golfing. Surviving besides his wife are sons: David Walter Herr of Chapel Hill, Douglas Allan Herr and Donald Eric Herr, husband of Greta, all of Lancaster; along with grandchildren Nate and Elly and a sister, Geraldine Roland.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Ben Herr and a sister, Millie Groff. A Celebration of Elvin’s Life will take place at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, 31 S. Duke St., Lancaster, PA on Friday, April 15, 2016 at 11:00 AM. The family will greet friends immediately following the service on Friday. Interment will be private in River Burial Park. There will be a viewing at Dewald Funeral & Cremation Services, 227 W. 4th St., Quarryville, PA on Thursday, April 14, 2016 from 10:00 – 11:30 AM.
