Earl Raymond Shelley, 81, died on Monday, December 14, 2015 at Praxis Alzheimer’s Facility in Easton, PA. Born in Mt. Joy, he was the son of the late Earl Vere and Evelyn (Rinehart) Shelley. Earl and his wife, Dora (McGarvey) Shelley had celebrated 60 years of marriage. Earl graduated from Mt. Joy High School and then “Bud” as he was known was drafted into the US Air Force serving from 1954 to 1958 with 13 months in Okinawa, Japan. After returning home, he obtained a bachelor’s degree in education from Millersville State College. Earl taught science for 38 years in the Lampeter-Strasburg and Solanco school districts. In addition to his teaching duties he also served as a soccer coach, athletic trainer, and caving club supervisor. He had a special affection for his “cave rats”. In addition to his wife, Earl is survived by 4 sons: Steven, Clifford, Kevin (Kelly) and Keith; grandchildren: Jessie, Robert, Kim, Stephen, Justin, Rachel, Andrew, Amber, Nathan, and Olivia; great-grandchildren: Gavin, Arianna, and Aubree.
He was preceded in death by an infant brother, Carlton. Our family is extremely proud of Earl for his service to his country and community. He now has wings and can fly like an eagle.
