Curtis E. Akers passed after a brief battle with cancer on Wednesday, November 16, 2016 in his 83rd year, with his wife by his side. He was the son of the late Marvin K. and Freeda P. (Connor) Akers. He is survived by Ruth (Trimble), his wife of 62 years. He is also survived by one brother, Wayne of Morgantown, West Virginia. He was preceded in death by his brother Robert of Breezewood. Curtis and Ruth raised a family of four: Gary married to Virginia Palmer of Warfordsburg; Donna of Lancaster; Linda married to Mike Sticklin of Berwyn; and Nancy married to David Sasso of Fall City, Washington. The family also includes 9 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. After graduating from Everett High School in 1950, Curtis studied at Penn State to become a DHIA milk tester. He was employed by Interstate Milk Producers for several years. In 1960 Curtis and Ruth purchased and began farming Solanco Acres Farm. They successfully operated their dairy farm for over 50 years, establishing one of the top Holstein herds in Lancaster County. He was a Director of the Interstate Dairy Co-op for several years. Curtis enjoyed traveling, as well as spending leisure time at their cabin along the Juniata River in Bedford County. He was a member of Memorial United Methodist Church in Quarryville.
A funeral service will take place at Memorial United Methodist Church, 101 South Hess St., Quarryville, PA on Monday, November 21, 2016 at 4:30 p.m. There will be a viewing at the church from 3:00-4:30 p.m. Private interment will be in the Rock Hill Cemetery, Bedford County.
