Glenn "Mike" Glackin passed away unexpectedly, Monday, December 19, 2022. He was 70. Born in Lancaster, he was the son of H. Nelson Glackin and Betty L."Adams" Glackin. He grew up in the village of Fairfield, Pa. and lived briefly in Ocala, Florida before spending his later years in Lancaster Nursing and Rehabilation. Mike was born with arthrogryposis, a birth disorder that left him without use of his hands and feet. After corrective surgery at Shriners Childrens Hospital, he was able to use his feet to maneuver his wheelchair and do many activities. He enjoyed a full life that involved fishing, swimming, traveling to the mountains in Potter County, and to Rehoboth Beach, just to name a few. Raymond Glenn Aukamp, age 90, of New Providence, passed away on Saturday, December 17, 2022. Raymond was the husband of Grace Ann Shenberger Aukamp who would have celebrated 67 years of marriage this coming January. He was born in New Providence, son of the late Carl and Emma Doulin Aukamp. Raymond served in the United States Army as a Corporal in the 1st Cavalry Division. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, snowmobiling and the occasional golf cart ride around the neighborhood. Raymond was also part of the Slumbering Groundhog Lodge of Quarryville, PA. Rhoda N. Beiler, age 89, formerly of Gordonville, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Friday, December 16, 2022. She was the wife of the late D. George Beiler who passed away on September 25, 2020. Born in Leola, she was the daughter of the late Daniel S. & Sarah B. Stoltzfus Stoltzfus. She was a member of the Ridgeview Mennonite Church, where in the past she was a Sunday school teacher, member of the sewing circle and President of the Time Out Program. In the past Rhoda had worked in the deli department at the former Ferguson & Hassler Grocery Store of Quarryville. She was a chairperson of the Lancaster County Fresh Air Fund and volunteered on the Solanco Fair Kitchen Committee. She enjoyed flower gardening, quilting, known for her gift of hospitality, and most of all she loved spending time with her children and grandchildren. Janet L. Pfender, age 88 of Columbia, formerly of Drumore, passed away on Sunday, December 18, 2022 at Saint Anne’s Retirement Community. She was the wife of the late Frank J. Pfender, Jr. who passed away on March 18, 1990. Born in Seanor, PA, she was the daughter of the late Jacob and Mary Judlowski Lubas. She was an active member of Saint Catherine of Sienna Catholic Church in Quarryville. Janet was a pilot and she owned a small plane. Dorothy Jean Lewis, 86, of Kirkwood, died at Lancaster General Hospital Friday, December 1612/20/2022
Dorothy Jean Lewis, age 86 of Kirkwood, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, December 16, 2022 at the Lancaster General Hospital. She was the wife of James Joseph Lewis with whom she celebrated 67 years of marriage. Born in Lancaster, she was the daughter of the late Guy R. and Elinor Tomlinson Hess. She graduated from Solanco High School, Class of 1954. She worked as a secretary for Alcoa in Lancaster, then in the cafeteria at Fulton Elementary School, and retired from Paul Risk Construction where she also worked as a secretary. Dorothy was a life-long member of Little Britain Presbyterian Church, Peach Bottom, where she was a member of the choir and served as a Sunday School teacher. She was a huge NASCAR fan and in her free time she enjoyed reading, quilting, cooking, baking, gardening, and beaching. Larry P. Kramer, 88, of Oxford, PA passed peacefully on December 11, 2022, at his home in WARE Presbyterian Village. Mr. Kramer was born April 16, 1934, in Butler, PA, to Sylvis R. and Lucille Kramer. After graduating high school in Philadelphia, PA, Mr. Kramer entered the Air Force and served during the Korean conflict. After an honorable discharge from the Air Force, he worked for RCA and Scott Paper until retirement. After retirement, he and his wife Sara Jane Kramer, nee McKeehen, enjoyed many years living near Bethany Beach, DE. He was a dedicated husband of 65 years and father to three sons. He enjoyed sports, especially the Pittsburgh Pirates, fishing, family gatherings, and vacations. He encouraged honesty, integrity, education, self-reliance, family, and participation in team sports. Horace W. Steffy, Jr., 75, of Lincoln University, PA, passed away on Wednesday, December 14, 2022. He was the husband of Dian Kilby Steffy with whom he shared 35 years of marriage. Born in Coatesville, PA he was the son of the late Horace W., Sr. and Harriet Messler Steffy. He graduated from Oxford Area High School, class of 1964. Horace was employed as a heavy equipment operator for Penn Dot and retired in 2007 after 20 years of service and was also employed as a deputy game protector for PA Game Commission for 17 years. Ann A. Casey, 91, of Quarryville died at Quarryville Presbyterian Retirement Community December 1312/16/2022
Ann A. Casey, 91, of Quarryville, previously of Bel Air, passed away on Tuesday, December 13, 2022 at Quarryville Presbyterian Retirement Community.
She was the loving wife of the late John G. Casey, with whom she shared 55 years of marriage at the time of his passing in 2008. Born in Philadelphia, she was the daughter of the late Lawrence and Mabel Ann (Strenger) Marrington. Ann spent most of her life caring for her family and home. She was an active volunteer, serving at a nursing home, and also was very active in the Northern Maryland Association for Retarded Citizens. In her spare time, Ann was a salesperson for Avon. A Methodist in her faith, Ann was a member of Bel Air United Methodist Church. Douglas W. McDowell, 57, of Oxford, PA, passed away on Sunday, December 11, 2022 at Union Hospital, Elkton, MD.
He was the husband of the late Lori Skelton McDowell with whom he shared 25 years of marriage. Born in West Grove, PA he was the son of Joyce Phillips McDowell of Oxford and the late Paul H. McDowell. Douglas was employed as a supervisor at Chester County Prison for over 30 years. He was a member of Bethany Presbyterian Church, Oxford. Douglas was an avid hunter. M. Ruth Kilby, 85, of Nottingham PA, entered into heaven surrounded by her children on Tuesday December 13, 2022, at Maple Farms Nursing Facility. Born in Oxford, PA on July 29, 1937, she was the daughter of the late Charles Browning and Mabel Cregger Browning Keys. Ruth was a dedicated mother first and foremost. She treasured her children and embraced every moment with them, especially enjoying family and holiday celebrations. She enjoyed reading, had a deep love for dogs, loved watching Hallmark movies and enjoyed watching her children and grandchildren participate in sports and school activities. She led a faith-filled life and was dedicated to her church. Ruth retired from Ware Presbyterian Village in 1999 after 23 years of service as a Physical Therapy Aide. |
