Jeannette A. Rutter, age 81, of Gap, passed away at her home on Tuesday, November 23, 2021. She was the wife of William H. Rutter, with whom she celebrated 61 years of marriage on January 10th. She was born in Lancaster, daughter of the late Donald W. & Marian E. Martin Miller. She was a lifetime member of the Limeville United Methodist Church of Gap, where she served as organist and pianist for over 65 years. She graduated from Pequea Valley High School class of 1959, and then graduating from Emiles Beauty. School. She owned and operated Jeannette Rutter's Beauty Shop of Gap for over 55 years. She enjoyed traveling, going to the beach, going out to eat, playing cards, watching birds and most of all she loved spending time with her family especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Betty Lou “Muggs” Bledsoe, 83, of Quarryville, entered into rest on Monday, November 22, 2021 at her home. Born in Chestnut Level, she was the daughter of the late John and Pearl (Eshleman) O’Donnell. She was the loving wife of R.C. Bledsoe. They had just celebrated 65 years of marriage on November 17. Muggs was a dedicated homemaker who loved being with her family. She enjoyed camping, quilting, canning, and gardening. She was a faithful member of Chestnut Level Presbyterian Church. David E. David E. Wissler, 89, of Deaver Road, Quarryville, PA died Monday, November 22, 2021 at Lancaster General Hospital.
He was born in Drumore Township on May 11, 1932, a son of the late David H. and Elsie Erb Wissler. A retired farmer, he was also a self-employed trucker, dealing and hauling hay and corn products. David also enjoyed being a taxi driver for the Amish for many years. He was a member of Mechanic Grove Church of the Brethren. Robert E. “Bob” Bird, Sr., age 77 of Gap, went home to be with his Lord Jesus Christ on Sunday, November 21, 2021. He was the husband of Carol J. Melott Bird with whom he celebrated 58 years of marriage in June. Born in West Chester, he was the son of the late George William and Jane Ingram Bird. Bob attended the Apostolic Church of Oxford for over 40 years where he enjoyed witnessing about Jesus, serving as an usher, and an elder. He enjoyed car shows, drag races, stock cars, music, and was always very patriotic. His most prized possession was his family which he adored. Roy S. Eckman, 89, died Friday, November 19, 2021 at Manorcare Lancaster, PA where he was a resident for the past 2 years. He was the husband of Geraldine Daub Eckman. Born in Quarryville, he was the son of the late Emlen R. and Ethel M. Steele Eckman. Roy had been employed as a machine operator for National Bearings retiring in 1994. A veteran, he served in the US Air Force during the Korean War. Gladys “Joyce” Shoemaker, age 81, formerly of Peach Bottom, passed away on Friday, November 19, 2021 at Quarryville Presbyterian Retirement Community. She was the wife of the late Lawrence J. “Sonny” Shoemaker. Born in Baltimore, MD, she was the daughter of the late Harry and Agnes Jebaily Singleton. She was a member of Pleasant Grove Methodist Church where she help teach Sunday School. Joyce was also very active in the Robert Fulton Fire Company Ladies Auxillary. Virgil W. Zook, age 58, of New Holland, PA, passed away at the Ephrata Hospital on Saturday, November 20, 2021. He was the husband of Ruth Glick Zook, with whom he celebrated 35 years of marriage on April 12th. He was born in Ephrata, son of Erma L. Beiler Zook of Gap, and the late Chris F. Zook. He was an active member of the Worship Center, where he served on the usher team. He was a co-owner of Clean Energy Heating Systems of Honey Brook. Virgil was known as a storyteller, comedian and a friend to all. He never met a stranger. He loved spending time with his family and friends. Surviving besides his wife and mother are 3 siblings: Vivian wife of Nathan Stoltzfus of Campobello, SC, Victor husband of Sherry Stoltzfoos Zook of Gap, Vietta wife of Allen Wood of Peach Bottom, 7 nieces and nephews: Trisha wife of Chris Westbrook, Austin Stoltzfus, Jennifer wife of Patrick Yoder, Brittany, Brandon & Courtney Zook and Sophia Wood. Roy H. Bushong, age 77, of Christiana, PA, passed into eternal heaven on Friday, November 19, 2021. He was the husband of Jean L. Groff Bushong with whom he celebrated 53 years of marriage on November 9th. He was born in Lancaster County, son of the late Henry Rakestraw & Helen Ferguson Bushong. He was a member of the Georgetown United Methodist Church. He was a skilled carpenter, grew and sold hydroponic tomatoes, worked at the Ardmore Farmer’s Market, and finished his working career as a maintenance technician for the Jay Group. He graduated from the Milton Hershey School for Boys in 1962 and then served as Airmen First Class in the U.S. Air Force from 1963-67. He was guarding the planes in Anchorage, AK at the time of the Good Friday Earthquake of 1964. Harold J. Styer, 90, of Oak Leaf Manor, Millersville, PA died Thursday, November 18, 2021 at Lancaster General Hospital. He was the husband of the late Dorothy Jane Brown Styer who died on April 29, 2018. Born in Lancaster, he was the son of the late Jerome and Ethel Kraemer Styer. Harold was a retired police officer, serving with the Lancaster City Police force for 25 plus years. He was a former member of the Fraternal Order of Police. A proud veteran he served his country in the US Army during the Korean War. He enjoyed boating in his earlier years, NASCAR, and Philadelphia sports, Phillies and Eagles. Alice Theresa Mihan, age 75, formerly of Strasburg, passed away on Wednesday, November 17, 2021 at Luther Acres, Lititz, PA after a courageous battle with Parkinson’s. Born in Wentorf, Germany, in a slave labor camp which was converted into a camp for Displaced Persons by the US Army following WWII, she was the daughter of the late Stanley Bowjanowski and Tessie Stepnowski. She was the wife of the late Howard R. Mihan who died in 2008. Alice graduated from St. John’s University, NY where she received her Master Degree in Education. She had been employed as the Director of Head Start in Coatesville, PA and assisted her husband in his restaurant businesses. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Strasburg where she served as a Deacon and was a member of Ruth Circle. |
