Cynthia Eileen Galgon, 48, of Allison Circle, Drumore, PA died Thursday, October 5, 2017 at Hospice & Community Care, Mt. Joy, PA. Born in Lancaster she was the daughter of Edgar and Blanche G. Metzler Church. Prior to her disability, she was employed as a secretary for Franklin and Marshall College. She was a member of Bethesda United Methodist Church, Holtwood, PA. Her enjoyments included watching movies and WWE, listening to music and sewing. Surviving beside her parents are 3 children, Ashley M. Galgon, Erica L. Galgon, and Trey J. Galgon; and 3 brothers, Gary (Robin) Church, Jeff (Donna) Church, Greg (Tonya) Church. George Petock, 91, of Springville Road, Quarryville, Pa died September 29, 2017 at his residence. Born in Mahoney City, PA he was the son of the late Harry and Mary Petock. George retired from G.E. after 34 years of service as a pipefitter. After retirement he worked for Manheim Auto Auction. He served his country as a Seaman First Class in the US Navy during WWII. He was a member of St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church, Quarryville. One of George’s enjoyments was to go out to dinner with his friends. Lucille Philips Liggitt, 88, of Oxford, passed away Saturday, September, 30, 2017 at The Glen at Willow Valley, Lancaster. She was the wife of the late Robert R. Liggitt. Born in West Grove, she was the daughter of the late Lewis K. and Lucie Penny Philips. Lucille graduated from Oxford Area High School, class of 1946. She continued her education at The Pennsylvania State University, graduating with a degree in education. She owned and operated L.K. Philips & Sons Florist and Greenhouses, Oxford, with her family. Lucille was a member of Oxford Presbyterian Church, where she served as a Deacon and Elder. She was also a member of the Oxford Contemporary Club, various bridge clubs and was active in the American Red Cross blood drives. Lucille enjoyed dancing and following the Penn State Nittany Lion football team. Barbara Troxell Beers, 81, of Quarryville, PA wife of John W. Beers, Jr. passed away on Sunday, October 1, 2017 at her home at Quarryville Presbyterian Retirement Community. Prior to moving to Quarryville, Barbara and John resided in Malvern, PA. Born in Ridley Park, she was the daughter of the late Clarence N. and Margaret L. (Worthington) Troxell. Barbara was a former member of St. Peters Church in the Great Valley. In her working life she worked in the computer industry for Memorex and IS&S in control of their computer parts inventory. Barbara enjoyed collecting figurines and bear themed keepsakes. Richard S. “Bub” Long, 82, of Quarryville, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, October 3, 2017 at his home while under hospice care after a 15-year illness. Born in Nottingham, he was the son of the late James C. and Ada (Starkey) Long. He is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Paulyne (Keene) Long. Bub had retired from PP&L, where he had worked as a shift supervisor for over 40 years. He enjoyed hunting and NASCAR and loved the outdoors. Bub was a member of Refton Brethren In Christ and had proudly served as a military police officer in the U.S. Army. In addition to his wife, Bub is survived by a son Gary, husband of Debra Long of Elkton, MD; 5 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren; 2 sisters: Nancy, wife of Richard Hastings, and Janet, wife of John Barrett. Merlin Louise Groff, 79, of Quarryville, PA, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, September 20, 2017. She was born in Venture District, Bethel Town, Westmoreland, Jamaica, West Indies. She was the daughter of the late Walter Barrett and Doris Crimmon. She was preceded in death by her husband, John Clayton Rohrer Groff. Merlin Louise Barrett migrated from Old Harbour, Jamaica, to Lancaster, PA, in 1991 to live with the James B. McFarlane Sr. family. She met and married John C. Groff, a family friend. She was a member of Rawlinsville Mennonite Church. She worked as a Nurse Aide in NYC and PA. She is fondly remembered and appreciated by the Amish that she always said Praise the Lord when she rode along on trips with her husband, who taxied Amish for many years. Larry F. Mahaffey, 73, of Oxford, passed away Thursday, September 28, 2017 at home. He was the husband of Inza Ann Latham Mahaffey with whom he shared 31 years of marriage. Born in West Jefferson, NC, he was the son of the late Coy Mahaffey and Lizzie Mae Stanley Hodgson. Larry owned a produce stand in Hickory Hill for many years. He enjoyed competing in field trials with beagles, hunting, fishing, going to produce auctions, listening to blue grass music and woodcarving. Kenneth W. Bradford, 89, of Strasburg, was called to Heaven by natural causes on Sunday, September 24, 2017, at home surrounded by his loving wife and family. Born July, 7, 1928, in Philadelphia, adopted son of G. Clay and Suie Acheson of Quarryville. Ken worked at Agway for 28 years, then Manheim Auto Auction for several years before finally retiring. He enjoyed his pets, vehicles, going to the Cochranville Carnival and listening to the bluegrass music, and spending time with his friends and family, especially his great-granddaughter. Ken is survived by his wife of 69 years, Jean E. (Brown) Bradford, a daughter and son, 2 grandsons and a great-granddaughter, Emily Jean Loraw. He was predeceased by brothers Robert and Edward Bradford of Michigan and numerous foster siblings. |
