Jane G. Hassler, 93, formerly of Stanton Road, Quarryville, died Friday, September 16, 2016 at Quarryville Presbyterian Retirement Community. She and her husband, Thurston A. “Wink” Hassler were married on January 26, 1944. Born in Lancaster she was the daughter of the late Howard W. and Mary G. Graeff Groff. A homemaker, she was a member of St. Paul’s Church, Quarryville. Jane enjoyed sewing, reading, dancing, and cooking. David E. Kauffman, 75, of Quarryville PA, passed away on, Sunday, September 11, 2016. He was the husband of Deloras Winters Kauffman. They had celebrated 55 years of marriage. Born in Nottingham PA, a son of the late Horace and Irene Altland Kauffman. David retired from the Buck Company, where he had been employed as a foundry foreman. He enjoyed fishing, NASCAR, and especially playing with his 2 granddaughters. He loved his family, his wife, 2 sons and daughters in law, and 2 granddaughters. Arleta Blanche (Groff) Vega, 67, of Quarryville, entered into rest on September 9, 2016. Born in Lancaster, she was the daughter of the late Howard W. and Grace Arleta (Huber) Groff. She and her husband, Felix Vega had celebrated 52 years of marriage in February. Arleta worked in the industrial field for several companies. She enjoyed playing pinochle, birdwatching and her dogs. Lillian Helen Boggs, 88, of Bird-In-Hand, died on Wednesday, September 7, 2016, at home with her daughter. She was born in Folcroft, Pennsylvania to Frank and Marian McNeile. She was married to the late John G. Boggs, Jr.
Lillian loved children. Her working years included working in a daycare setting with toddlers and working from home, caring for infants. Each infant became part of her family. She loved to sing, crochet, cook, bake and spend time with her family. David W. Schrott, Sr., 61, of Quarryville passed away Saturday, September 3, 2016 surrounded by his loving children. Born in Johnstown, PA he was the son of the late Francis K. Schrott and the late Ann (Ramach) Schrott. He is survived by his five children, David W. Schrott, Jr., husband of EJ of Millersville, Anna M. Metzler wife of Jordan of Strasburg, Lydia K. Walter wife of Jeremy of Lampeter, Seth F. Schrott husband of Brittany of East Petersburg and Sarah F. Keller wife of Dr. Nathan. Also surviving are eight grandchildren, Adrianna, Von, Jordy, Benjamin, Preston, Calista, Evelyn, Stella; one brother Matthew Schrott, two sisters, Frances Figard, Catherine Begazo, aunt LaVerne Schrott and his former wife and continued friend Valerie Schrott.
Archie Dean Sturgill, Sr., 77, of Drumore, PA passed away Friday, September 2, 2016 at his home. He was the husband of Rose Marie Chapman Sturgill with whom he shared 54 years of marriage. Born in Sparta, NC he was the son of the late Glenn and Winnie Birchette Sturgill. Archie attended Porters Grove Baptist Church, Rising Sun, MD. He enjoyed hauling scrap metal after retiring. He is survived by his wife; one son, Timothy Glenn Sturgill of Drumore, PA; one daughter, Dawn Bryant and her husband, Tom of Conowingo, MD; nine grandchildren, Joseph Sturgill, Tyler Sturgill, Kaitlyn Sturgill, Daniel Johnson, Timothy Sturgill, Jr., Taylor Sturgill, Amanda Main, Travis Bryant and Destiny Bryant; one great grandchild, Jace Campbell; four brothers, R.C. Sturgill of Rehoboth Beach, DE, Jerry Sturgill of Nottingham, PA, Larry Sturgill of Nottingham, PA, Alton Sturgill of Street, MD; and four sisters, Shirley Eldreth of Kennett Square, PA, Joyce Reeves of Honey Brook, PA, Linda Ely of Aberdeen, MD and Brenda Osborne of West Grove, PA. Samantha Lee Simpers, age 26 of New Providence, PA went to be with the Lord on September 3, 2016 after a drug overdose. She was born on November 25, 1989 in Newark, DE to Donald L. Simpers and Jacquelyn M. (Rudasill) Grimsey.
Samantha was a vibrant and outgoing person who loved people and she was a great mother to her two children. She loved waitressing in various restaurants in the PA area. She was a 2008 graduate from Solanco High School where she later attended Lancaster Cosmetology School for Massage. Samantha enjoyed writing poems had a passion for drawing abstract designs to express herself. Jimmie E. Babcock 79, formerly of Quarryville, passed away peacefully, but unexpectedly in Mountain Top, PA on Friday, September 2, 2016. Born in Warsaw, Indiana, he was a son of the late Dale O. and Vera Cartwright Babcock. He was married to the late Georgia (Vires) Babcock who died in 1997. Jimmie graduated from Warsaw High School in 1954 at the age of 17. He then proudly served his country with the United States Army and was stationed in Germany for the duration of his service. Jimmie married the late Georgia Vires Babcock on January 23, 1970. Together, they worked hard and raised their children in love. Jimmie spent many years working as a Pressman at RR Donnelly and Sons in Lancaster, PA, of which he retired in 1996. After Jimmie’s retirement, he and Georgia relocated to Potter County, Pa to carry out their dream of living on a Mountain. After losing Georgia in 1997, Jimmie moved back to Lancaster to be with his children. Jimmie enjoyed life to the fullest. He never met a stranger and could fill a room with laughter. He was an outdoorsman who loved to hunt and fish, and most recently was excited to learn how to shoot a crossbow. He loved country music, old westerns and politics, but most of all, Jimmie loved spending time with his family. Jimmy Shepherd, 79, of Peach Bottom, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, September 4, 2016. Born in West Jefferson, N.C., he was a son of the late Walter C., and Rosie (Miller) Shepherd. He was married to Shelby (Sheetz) Shepherd for 57 years. Jimmy had worked as a maintenance supervisor for both the Oxford Cabinet Factory and the ATAC Corp. He was a member of Wrightsdale Baptist Church. Jimmy loved gardening, growing fruit trees and spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. He enjoyed helping the community and driving his Amish neighbors. |
