Betty Jean Irmen, 58, of Quarryville, passed away on Monday, August 15, 2016 at her daughter’s home where she was doing what she loved most, watching her grandchildren. Betty was the wife of the late Leroy Irmen, who preceded her in death on November 22, 2011, and who surely was the first to greet her in her new Heavenly home. Betty and Leroy would have celebrated 40 years of marriage on August 14, 2016. Betty will forever be remembered by her two daughters; Jennifer Eisenberger, married to Matthew Eisenberger of Quarryville and Tera Koehler, married to Jesse Koehler of Lancaster. She is also survived by her “grandbabies” Emma, Carly, Brady, and Landon. In addition, she will be forever missed by her mother, Hester Rutledge of Peach Bottom; siblings Judy McDowell of Peach Bottom, Janice Rosiere of South Carolina, Jackie Gauthier married to Jay Gauthier of Conestoga, and Earl Rutledge Jr. married to Jill Rutledge of Quarryville. “Aunt B” will also be missed by many nieces and nephews. Betty was preceded in death by her father, Earl Rutledge and her brother David Rutledge of Peach Bottom. J. Harold Charles, 94, entered into eternity after a brief illness on August 13, 2016 at Lancaster General Hospital. He was the husband of the late Mary Longenecker Charles. Born in Manor Township on June 14, 1922, he was the son of the late Amos B. Charles and Edith Haverstick Charles. Harold was a 1940 graduate of Penn Manor High School. He farmed for 60 years and served as a bi-vocational pastor for 34 years at Oakwood Mennonite Church, Oakwood MD. He was also a tireless helper in the community and served with Mennonite Disaster Service. Thomas W. Gallimore of Kirkwood passed away at the age of 69 on Saturday, August 13th, after a lengthy illness. Born in Hillsville, VA, he was the son of the late Burton W. and Emily K. Gallimore. He moved to the Oxford area as a young boy and graduated from Oxford Area High School. He spent his lifelong career in the retail business, employed for many years by totes, Isotoner, Inc. and was proprietor of Evan’s Unpainted Furniture in Quarryville for a few years. Thomas was a member of Sacred Heart Church in Oxford. His happiest times were spent on the water with family and friends either surf fishing in Fenwick Island, snorkeling in Aruba or boating on the Chesapeake. His hobbies included collecting antiques, researching Southern Lancaster and Chester County history, wood working, gardening, and restoring his ’55 Chevy. Janis A. Walker, 72, of Oxford passed away Tuesday, August 9, 2016 at her home. Born in Monroe, LA she was the daughter of the late Richard Paul and M. Eleanor Long Walker. She was the wife of David W. Buckley with whom she shared 25 years of marriage. She was employed as an Executive Assistant to the Vice President of Academic Affairs at Lincoln University and retired in 2010. For the last two years Janis was employed as an Executive Director with Oxford Area Chamber of Commerce She graduated from West Chester University with a degree in Education. Janis taught Kennett Middle and Elementary School. She was a member of Community of Love Lutheran Church, Oxford. Janis enjoyed reading, gardening, cats, crochet and her grandchildren. Richard B. Shoun, age, 76, of Peach Bottom, PA passed away on August 13, 2016. Born in Mountain City, TN, Richard had lived in Pennsylvania most of his life. He was the husband of Judy A. (Caudill) Shoun with whom he shared 51 years of marraige. He was the son of the late Joseph C. Shoun and Opal L. (Mullins) Shoun of Peach Bottom. Richard attended Oxford area schools. He worked on the family farm and later worked as a diesel mechanic at the former Herr’s Motor Express in Quarryville for 18 years prior to retiring due to illness. He enjoyed antique cars and Nascar and was an avid bowler. He was a member of Porters Grove Baptist Church in Conowingo, MD. He was a member of Washington Lodge No. 156, F & AM of Quarryville, PA and was a 32nd degree Mason. He was also a member of the Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite in Valley of Harrisburg, PA and Lancaster, PA, Lancaster County Shrine, Shriners International, and Zembo Temple in Harrisburg. Ida J. Metzler, 67, of Sawmill Road, New Providence, PA died Friday, August 12, 2016 at Lancaster General Hospital. She and her husband Donald L. Metzler were married for 50 years. Born in Lancaster, PA she was the daughter of the late Fred L. and Elsie B. Eberlee Sheets. A homemaker, Ida enjoyed going to public auctions, needlecraft especially hooking, her flower gardening with its butterflies, and all animals large and small. Joyce C. Rabuck Schaeffer, 76, of Nottingham, passed away Tuesday evening at her home with her family by her side. Born in Clarks Valley, July 28, 1940, a daughter of the late Gurney and Beatrice Fetterhoff Rabuck. Joyce's entire life revolved her family, they meant the world to her. She was predeceased by her husband of 44 years, Clifford, July 4, 2001; two sons, Clifford "Buddy" and Perry A. Schaeffer; a sister, Bertha Weaver; four brothers, Lloyd, William, James and Donald Rabuck. John W. Wagner, 78, of New Providence, entered into rest on Friday, August 5, 2016. Born in Pequea, he was the son of the late Norman Earl and Ivy Irene (Rathkey) Wagner. John enjoyed working on cars, he owned and operated several auto body shops in the southern end of Lancaster. He liked to watch NASCAR, listen to country music and spend time with his family. Jesse M. Foster, Jr. age 57 of Conowingo, MD, passed away after a long-term illness while surrounded by his loving family on August 5, 2016. He was born on November 7, 1958 in Elkton, MD to Jesse M. Foster, Sr. and the late, Vaudeline C. (Perdue) Foster. Jesse was the Pastor of Fellowship of Faith Church in Kirkwood, PA for ten years. He founded and facilitated The Exchange Youth Ministry of Oxford, PA and later a branch in Rising Sun, MD. Additionally, Jesse was the owner and operator of Tristate Petroleum Services. He was a fan of the Baltimore Ravens and Baltimore Orioles. Jesse was a hardworking man who cherished his family and his faith. Owen Mark Lane, 63, of Peach Bottom, passed away unexpectedly as the result of a motorcycle accident in Rising Sun, MD. Born in Havre de Grace, MD he was a son of the late Ernest Mark and Thelma (Bunce) Lane. He was married to Iona F. (Bare) Lane. Mark worked and retired as a steam fitter for Local #420 in Philadelphia. He loved hunting, fishing, cheering on the Steelers and riding his Harley. |
