Merle M. “Squeak” Aukamp, 93, of Quarryville, entered into rest on Saturday, July 16, 2022 at the Quarryville Presbyterian Retirement Community. Born in New Providence, he was the son of the late Abram W. and Mabel (Myers) Aukamp. He was the loving husband of the late Lois (Weitzel) Aukamp for 67 years at time of her passing in 2021. Squeak was a 1947 graduate of Quarryville High School. He went on to serve proudly in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. Squeak was employed by Herr’s Motor Express in Quarryville for many years. He was an active member of Memorial United Methodist Church, Rawlinsville United Methodist Church and also Chestnut Level Presbyterian Church. Lydia L. Zook Esch, age 79 of 278 Truce Road, New Providence, passed away on Saturday, July 16, 2022 at her home.
She was the wife of John R. Esch. Born in Quarryville, she was the daughter of the late Joshua L. and Nancy Beiler Zook. Lydia was a member of the Old Order Amish Church. Paula Elaine Hanby, 58, of Nottingham, PA, passed away at Reading Hospital.
On July 10, 2022, we said goodbye to a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. Paula Elaine Hanby was born on March 8, 1964 in Nottingham, PA and graduated from Oxford High School in 1982. She worked in information technology at Jennersville Hospital (formerly Southern Chester County Medical Center) for 17 years. This is where she met the love of her life, Anthony Hanby and they married in 1994. Paula then worked for Deloitte Consulting for 17 years as a systems analyst. She facilitated teams around the globe to support Deloitte’s virtual education platform. Her co-workers considered her to be a memorable woman who made work fun. As a lifelong resident of Nottingham, Paula enjoyed boating on the Susquehanna, hiking, 4-wheeling, and rooting for the Philadelphia Eagles. Her many Labrador puppies were her pride and joy. Paula hosted countless wedding and baby showers, made the best potato salad, and generously sent gifts as a way to cheer up her friends and family. She was kind to all, whether they were two-legged or four legged. She had a wicked sense of humor, but most of all, a friendly and giving spirit that will be missed by all. Susie L. Fisher, age 64, of 9 Old Forge Road, Atglen, passed away on Friday, July 8, 2022 at home.
She was the wife of Samuel B. Fisher. Born in Kirkwood, she was the daughter of the late Levi L. and Sarah Lapp Stoltzfus. Susie was a member of the Old Order Amish Church. Virginia M. "Ginny" Groff, age 78 of Lancaster, PA, passed away at the Mt. Joy Hospice Center on Friday, July 8, 2022. She was the wife of the late Dennis Ray Babb and the late Rodney R. Groff, Sr. She was born in Lancaster County, daughter of the late Harry Sr. & Verna F. Groff Harman. In the past she attended Faith Tabernacle. She enjoyed antiquing and playing Bingo. Surviving are 2 children: Danielle E. Babb of Lancaster, Christopher Babb husband of Linda Forte of Lancaster, 6 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren, brother Chester E. Harman of Pequea. Laverne McNeil Shank, 94, of 747 Cricket Court in Port Orange, FL, formerly of Lancaster, died on Monday, July 4, 2022 at Stuart F. Meyer Hospice House in Palm Coast, FL. He was born on April 21,1928 in Lancaster, to parents Jesse McNeil Shank, Sr. and Esther Pearl Rittenhouse Shank. He was a graduate of Lampeter-Strasburg High School and served in the Army and the Navy during World War II, stationed in Guam. Laverne married Patricia Jane Fahey on November 28, 1960. They were married for 58 years when Patricia died on February 25, 2018. Laverne was employed by the State of Pennsylvania in the beverage industry. His hobbies included coin collecting, baseball card collecting, stamp collecting, boxing and walking/exercising daily. Pamela Ann Clemonts, 55, of Oxford, PA passed on Monday, July 4, 2022 at Christiana Hospital, Newark, DE.
Born in West Grove, PA she was the daughter of Theresa Maxwell Clemonts of Oxford and the late Hodges Clemonts. Pamela enjoyed puzzles and dancing. Mary Jane Smith Jackson, 83 years, of Port Deposit, MD, passed away Monday, July 4, 2022 at home surrounded by her family. Born October 28, 1938 in West Grove, PA, she was the daughter of the late Ivan Dallas and Sara Clark Brown Smith. Mrs. Jackson was a graduate of the Oxford High School of Oxford, PA, Class 1956. She enjoyed spending time with her family, feeding/watching birds, taking care of stray cats, reading, Bible study, watching game shows, Orioles, Ravens, and sports in which her children and grandchildren participated. She taught Sunday School for many years at the Hopewell United Methodist Church of Port Deposit, MD, and was a den mother for the Boy Scouts and a Girl Scout leader for the troops of Hopewell United Methodist Church. Harry L. Martin, Jr., 56, of Peach Bottom, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, July 1, 2022. Born in Lancaster, he was the son of Harry L., Sr. and Joyce A. (Hash) Martin. Harry was a graduate of Solanco High School, class of 1984. After graduation he found employment in the building materials industry, first for Denlinger Lumber and then for J.C. Snavely & Sons. Harry then spent a few years working at local gun shops. He was most recently employed by Herr Foods Inc. as a maintenance technician. Outside of work, Harry loved the outdoors and enjoyed hunting and fishing. Judith A. Wert, age 74 of New Providence, entered into her Heavenly home on Tuesday, June 29, 2022. She was the wife of the late Elvin R. Wert who passed in 2016. She was born in Lancaster, daughter to the late Richard V. and Elizabeth M. Toms Frick. She was a member of Providence Church. She enjoyed working outside and spending time with family and friends, especially her grandchildren, her cat Backpack and the family dog Bailey. She also enjoyed baking brownies and chocolate cake with her amazing peanut butter or caramel frosting. |
