Robert E. “Bob” Swinehart, 77, of Lancaster PA, formerly of Cochranville, PA passed away on Tuesday, July 11, 2017. Bob had retired from Penn Dot, working primarily in Chester County. Prior to his Penn Dot employment, he was a milkman for Highland Dairies, and had also been employed by the ACME in Coatesville. Bob was a graduate of the former Conestoga High School. He was an avid Philadelphia sports fan. As member of I.O.O.F. Hebron #437, he had served as past president. Bob enjoyed being involved and volunteering at the Cochranville festival. Bob attended Refton Brethren in Christ Church. Born in Bart Twp. PA, he was a son of the late Roy J. and Ethel Jean Graybill Swinehart. Willis G. “Willie” Weaver, 78, of Lancaster passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Sunday, July 9, 2017. Born in Buena Vista, Salisbury Township, he was the son of the late Willis and M. Elizabeth (Groff) Weaver. Willie is survived by his wife of 54 years, Betty (Groff) Weaver. Willie worked for the former Ford New Holland as a machinist for over 37 years, retiring in 1998. Following retirement, he worked at the Miller’s Greenhouse for several years, where he met many wonderful friends. Willie excelled at racing homing pigeons in his younger years. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and attending his grandchildren’s activities. Willie was an avid Phillies, Eagles, and Flyers fan. He also followed Villanova basketball and Drexel wrestling. Willie proudly served his country in the U.S. Army in Germany from 1959-1962. He was also a member of Faith Bible Fellowship Church. Delray Rowe, 90, of North East, MD, formerly of Kirkwood, PA passed away on Wednesday, July 5, 2017 at Laurelwood Healthcare Center, Elkton, MD.
Born in Little Horse Creek, NC she was the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Melvin Roten. She was the wife of the late Paul Rowe, Jr. and was preceded in death by her first husband, John Mayberry. Delray was a caregiver to several children. She enjoyed sewing clothes and quilting. Walter Brooke (Sandy) Stabler, Jr., 79, of Cochranville, PA passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family on Monday, July 3, 2017. He was the husband of Nancy Krauss Stabler, with whom he shared 22 years of marriage. Born in Philadelphia, PA, Sandy also lived in Bloomfield Hills, MI, Wilmington, DE, Oxford, PA, and Cochranville, PA. Sandy attended Episcopal High School and graduated from Tower Hill School in 1957. He served in the U.S. Army before earning his Bachelor’s degree from the University of Delaware in 1963. He was a tenacious wrestler, football player, and tennis player. Sandy often recalled his postgraduate time spent working at a ranch in Wyoming. M. Arlene Furlow Denlinger, 93, of Ronks PA, passed away on Tuesday, July 4, 2017. She was the wife of the late Leslie A. Furlow, and the late Everett E. Denlinger. Born in Bart, PA, Arlene was a daughter of the late William W. and Mary Elizabeth McMichael Murphy. She was the owner-operator of her beauty salon for 47 years. Arlene enjoyed bird watching, and watching her Phillies. She is survived by her son Leslie Furlow, II (Karen), Strasburg, 3 grandchildren, David McKinney, Tyler Furlow, Ryan Furlow, great grandsons, Troy and Owen McKinney, step granddaughters, Samantha Kopp, Joellyn Kauffman, and her sister, Esta Mowrer, Georgetown. Arlene was predeceased by 13 siblings. Gyla J. Fuller, 95, of Oxford, passed away on Tuesday, July 4, 2017 at Laurelwood Healthcare Center, Elkton, MD. Born in Wrightsdale, PA she was the daughter of the late Howard and Leta Dawson Jamison. Gyla was a member and choir member of the Oxford Nazarene Church and was a Sunday school teacher for 38 years. She served on the Oxford Area Senior Center Board of Directors. Gyla was a member of the Union Fire Co. #1 Auxiliary, Oxford, Mason Dixon Post #194 American Legion Auxiliary, Rising Sun, MD, Retired Senior Volunteer Program, XYZ Club, Oxford, West Chester and Senior Circle at Jennersville Regional Hospital. Kerry E. Stoudt, 64, of Peach Bottom PA, passed away on Wednesday, July 5, 2017. He was the husband of Donna Vaccaro Stoudt. They had celebrated 45 years of marriage. Kerry and his wife were the owner operators of the Peach Bottom Marina, Peach Bottom, PA. He was a member of the Quarryville Croaking Frogs, and the Mt. Nebo Sportsman Club. Kerry had served as an officer and was a lifetime member of the Temple Fire Company, Temple, PA. He enjoyed his Corvette, hunting and fishing. Gyla J. Fuller, 95, of Oxford, passed away on Tuesday, July 4, 2017 at Laurelwood Healthcare Center, Elkton, MD. Born in Wrightsdale, PA she was the daughter of the late Howard and Leta Dawson Jamison. William C. Thornton, 94 years old, died peacefully on July 3, 2017, at Quarryville Presbyterian Retirement Community in Quarryville, PA, where he had resided for 13 years. He was the son of the late Arthur Sewell Thornton and Catharine May Thornton (nee Smyers), and the loving husband of the late Elsie Elizabeth Thornton (nee Hare), with whom he shared 64 years of marriage. Born in Akron, Ohio, in 1923, Bill attended Garfield High School in Akron, graduating with honors. He achieved the rank of Eagle Scout and was an Assistant Scoutmaster in the Boy Scouts of America. During World War II, from June 1943 to December 1945, Bill served in the US Army. He participated in the Liberation of the Philippines following the Battle of Leyte Gulf as a Technician Fourth Grade in the Sixth Army’s 1041st Engineer Gas Generating Unit. Valaria Feryn (Herr) Ferguson, 85, passed from us on June 28, 2017 at Ware Presbyterian Village. She was born on March 20, 1932 in Kirkwood, Lancaster County, PA. The daughter of the late Abram R. and F. Anna (Linton) Herr. She is survived by her husband of 63 years, the Reverend John Ferguson; 3 children, daughters: Elaine and Ellen of Asheville, N.C., and a son Kirk Ferguson and his wife, Mary Jo of Kirkwood, along with grandchildren, Robyn Ferguson and Megan, wife of Mike Sirera. She is preceded in death by a sister, Pauline Reinhart and a brother, A. Dale Herr. Valaria and Jack served the Unionville Presbyterian Church and community in Chester County for 42 years. She was involved in many volunteer activities over the years.
