Grace R. Gilbert, 82, of Upper Oxford Twp., entered into rest peacefully at her home on Monday, July 4, 2016. Born in Upper Oxford Twp., she was a daughter of the late Jordan M., and Alice M. (Griffith) Reyburn. She was the loving wife of John W. Gilbert for 53 years. Grace had attended a one-room school house and then graduated from Oxford Area High School in 1951. She was employed at Tidykins Garment Co. in Quarryville. She then became a hairdresser and went on to work at the former Bainbridge Naval Training Center, where she did hair for the W.A.V.E.S. Grace was a skilled homemaker who enjoyed cooking, baking, gardening, and taking long walks on her farm. Sammi June McBee, 85, formerly of New Providence, entered into rest on Monday, July 4, 2016 at Hamilton Arms Rehabilitation Center. Born in Sewanee, TN she was a daughter of the late Samuel L. and Ocie L. (Brooks) Finney. Sammi June worked as a homecare provider and later volunteered at the Quarryville Library after her retirement. She enjoyed spending time with her family and gardening. She is survived by her children: Allen Dotson of Lovell, ME; David Dotson, companion of Lisa of Quarryville; Janet, wife of Don Galbreath of Fruitland Park, FL; and Mary, wife of Roy Homerding of Georgetown, TX. Also surviving are 4 grandchildren: Dylan Galbreath, Southern Dotson, Dylan Dotson, and Russell Dotson; 5 great grandchildren, 3 brothers, and 3 sisters. Sammi was preceded in death by a brother, a sister, and a son, George Dotson. William Howard Hogg died on June 29, 2016. He had a heart condition since 1981 that would have made us expect him to already be with the Lord. Bill was born September 4, 1920 in his childhood home in Kirkwood, PA to Alvin Earl and Kathrine B Simmons. He grew up in Kirkwood and graduated from Colerain high school in 1938. After high school Bill worked at Grinnell Company in Philadelphia and lived with his brother Earl. He was drafted into the army on July 25, 1942 and served until 1945. He was a Corporal working in Motor Pool where he led a convoy and later spent time in England in advanced training. When he returned home from his military duty he lived with his brother Earl. He went to Mechanics School with the G I Bill and started working for his brother Winnie in 1948 as a truck driver and mechanic. He would eat lunch at Kint’s diner where he met his wife, Mary Lou Kint. They were married on Aug 22, 1949. He gave up trucking and worked for Winnie as a mechanic and parts man his entire life. Bill and Mary rented a mushroom house called “The Old Mill” and raised mushrooms with Maurice and Elsie Ferree, Bill’s cousin. They built their own mushroom house in 1959 and continued until 1972. |
