Our precious, baby boy, Benji Amir, passed away unexpectedly in his Mommy's arms on Tuesday June 14th, 2022 at his home in Oxford PA. Baby Benji was born April 2nd, 2022 in Newark DE to Alexis Bond of Oxford PA and DeQuan Gray of Wilmington, DE. He loved cuddling his mommy, swinging on the porch in his swing and going for walks in his stroller with their dog, Axel. He was the sweetest, happiest baby that anybody could ask for with a smile that could light up a room. Shirley J. Maxwell, age 67 of Peach Bottom, passed away on Wednesday, June 22, 2022 at home. She was the wife of Donald Maxwell. Shirley was born in West Chester, daughter of the late Garfield and Edna Mains Davis. Shirley enjoyed spending time with family when possible. Christian C. “Chris” Waltman, 69, of Drumore, passed away at his home on Wednesday, June 22, 2022. He was the beloved husband of Ruth Ann (VanCleve) Waltman, with whom he shared 52 years of marriage. Born in Lancaster, he was the son of the late Clair G. and Nettie M. (Bleacher) Waltman. Chris attended Solanco schools and proudly served his country in the U.S. Army from 1971 to 1977, earning the rank of Sergeant. Learning how to weld at age 15, Chris made a career of welding, working for Posey Iron Works, A.B. Rote, Armstrong, and Burnham. He then started his own business, Chris’ Welding and Fabrication, and he retired in 2019. He also provided transportation for the Amish community. Chris was a skilled tradesman, known for his quality craftsmanship, and he was affectionately referred to as “Chris the welder” by Amish children. Owen Clarence Reeves-Jones, stillborn infant son of Samantha L Reeves and Warren A. Jones of Kirkwood, passed away at the Women & Babies Hospital on Monday, June 6, 2022.
Richard E. Glisson, 91, of Quarryville Presbyterian Retirement Community died Monday, June 206/22/2022
Richard E. Glisson, 91, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Monday June 20,2022 at Quarryville Presbyterian Retirement Community, surrounded by his family.
He was the beloved husband of Anna Jane (Hall) Glisson with whom he shared 68 years of marriage. Born in Lancaster on July 13, 1930, he was the son of the late Chester F. and Sue (Erb) Glisson. Richard was a member of the Southern Lancaster County Joint High School, class of 1948. He enlisted in the Army and served from 1948 -1952 in Germany. Upon his return from active-duty, Richard worked briefly at Holtwood Power Plant before becoming a farmer. He worked in farming, first for Jay Lefever, then for himself on a farm he purchased near Unicorn. In 1965 Richard went to work at R.C.A., before taking a job at Commonwealth Telephone Company. He worked as a lineman, installer and finally as a business systems technician, retiring in 1995. Edythe M. “Peg” Cwienk, 91, of Bart Twp., entered into rest on Friday, June 17, 2022 at Hospice and Community Care. Born in Philadelphia, she was the daughter of the late Elmer and Ida (Paulus) MacMoran. She was the wife of the late William H. Smith and the late Frank Cwienk, Jr. Peg was a member of Memorial United Methodist Church in Quarryville and was active in the community as a volunteer for Solanco Neighborhood Ministries, New Hope Community Closet and the Quarryville Library. She also enjoyed reading and singing with various choirs throughout her life. Shirley A. Muellen, of Lancaster, passed away on Thursday, June 16, 2022. She was the loving wife of Peter Muellen, with whom she shared 65 years of marriage. Born in Southern Lancaster County, she was the daughter of the late Charles H. Reed and Edith (Hershour) Matt. She was also the step-daughter of Anita C. Reed and Lewis J. Matt. Shirley was a graduate of Solanco High School class of 1954. She felt fortunate to have a group of friends that she was close to throughout her life. Following her graduation from High School she graduated as a RN from Lancaster General Hospital in 1957. Through much hard work and determination, she later graduated with a BS in Education with Certification in School Nursing from Millersville University in 1982. She encouraged and challenged many people to continue to learn, including many of the nurses who most recently cared for her during a brief illness. A. Vernon “Bud” Lefever, Jr., 89, of Quarryville, formerly of Lampeter and Pequea Township, passed away on Tuesday, June 14, 2022 at Quarryville Presbyterian Retirement Community. He was the beloved husband of Reba F. (Gable) Lefever, with whom he shared 64 years of marriage. Born in Lampeter, he was the son of the late A. Vernon, Sr., and Clara (Fellenbaum) Lefever. Vernon was a graduate of West Lampeter High School, class of 1950. From a young age he began performing mechanical work for his father’s business, Lampeter Garage. He then went on to be employed in the parts departments of Wiggins Chevrolet and Larry Murphy Chevrolet, and retired from a position in the parts department of the Buck Company. Vernon proudly served his country in the U.S. Army from 1953 – 1955, earning the rank of Corporal. Richard C. “Dick” Wissler, 78, of Lancaster, died June 13, 2022 at his home. Born in Quarryville on September 23, 1943, he was the son of the late Harry C. and Thelma (Strubel) Wissler. He was the loving husband of Sandra (O’Donnell) Wissler for 56 years. Dick was a 1961 graduate of Solanco High School. He retired from the Buck Co. after 25 years of service. Dick was a member of Chestnut Level Presbyterian Church and was an avid gardener who shared his knowledge and his plants with many friends and family. Emily Victoria Torrise, 18, of Red Lion and formerly of Quarryville, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, June 10, 2022. Born in Toms River, NJ, she was the daughter of Kelly (Miller) Torrise and the late Carmen J. Torrise. Emily was a 2021 graduate of Solanco High School. Being a lover of music, she sang with the Smith Singers and the Solanco Chorale. She had been taking online accounting courses through Southern New Hampshire University and had worked at McDonalds in Red Lion. Emily loved unique foods and would rarely turn down the chance to taste something new. She also had a heart for unlovable and unique animals. Emily was well-travelled, having visited all 50 states with her mom. |
