James A. “Jim” Brown, 71, of Ephrata and formerly of Wakefield, died peacefully on Friday, May 15, 2015. Born in Lancaster, he was the son of the late Gyles H. and Esther Hambleton Brown. Jim was the loving husband of Sandra Garber Bowman Brown. An electrician throughout his life, he was the owner of Daystar Company Inc. Ephrata; previously he was a member of IBEW Local 414. Jim was an active and faithful member of Speedwell Heights Brethren In Christ Church, Lititz. His interests included antique cars and rooting for his favorite teams the Phillies and Eagles. Jeffrey M. Hollaway, 47, of Quarryville, entered into rest on Monday, May 18, 2015 at his home. Born in West Grove, he was a son of the late James and Shirley (Brewer) Hollaway.
He is survived by his long-time companion, Caroline Rendler, a sister, Pat Orlowski Hollaway; a brother, Rick, husband of Luann Hollaway; and a sister, Peggy Destafney Hollaway. Richard K. McVey, 84, of Lancaster, PA died Tuesday, May 19, 2015 at Mercy Suburban Hospital, Norristown, PA.
Born in Providence Township, he was the son of the late Walter F. and Mary Elizabeth Groff McVey. Mr. McVey had previously been employed by the former ALCOA Company as a mechanic in the fastener department. After the plant closed he worked for Precision Forms, Lititz, PA from which he retired. He served his country in the US Army during the Korean War, serving overseas in Italy. He enjoyed going to public auctions. J. Scott Keemer, 54, of Putter Avenue, Lancaster, PA, went to be with his Lord on May 18, 2015 at his residence. Born in Lancaster, he was the son of Joseph F. Jr., and Susan King Keemer of Lancaster. Scott was employed by Yarnell Security Systems, Lancaster for 27 years as an IT specialist and service network manager. A musician, he played drums for the Workin Dawgs Band which played in local clubs and for various charity benefits. He was a member of N.I.C.E.T. and served as president of the A.S.C.E.T. chapter. Scott enjoyed photography, and was a professional level photographer. Hazel S. Wesley, 99, of Quarryville, PA passed away peacefully on May 14, 2015 at The Glen at Willow Valley in Willow Street, PA. She was preceded in death by her parents Forrest R. and Elsie B. Baughman Scott and her husband of 64 years, Paul R. Wesley. She is survived by her daughter, Dolores W. Jones wife of Neil H. Jones of Quarryville; a granddaughter Denise D. Tyrrell of Houston, TX; and a great granddaughter Paige W. Tyrrell of Austin, TX. A self-taught artist, Hazel’s admiration of natural beauty served as the inspiration for her paintings. She enjoyed working with textiles, ceramics, and painting on canvas, glass, tin, and wood. She was also a piano instructor and accomplished seamstress. Hazel was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Lancaster and a former member of the Pennsylvania Guild of Craftsmen. Daniel E. Erisman of Conestoga died on Thursday, May 14, 2015. He was 69. Mr. Erisman was born in Lancaster, a son of the late Paul E. and Caroline Rohrer Erisman. He served in the U.S. Navy. Mr. Erisman worked as a control room operator for PPL, Holtwood, for more than 30 years before retiring in 2014. He enjoyed boating and spending time with family and friends. John N. Gehron of the Quarryville Presbyterian Retirement Community died at home on Thursday, May 14, 2015. He was 80. Mr. Gehron was born in Drumore, a son of the late John Henry and Helen Good Gehron. He lived in Cochranville before moving to the retirement community three years ago. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Korean War era. Mr. Gehron worked for Lukens Steel for 41 years before retiring. He was a member of the Rough & Tumble Engineers Museum. He enjoyed collecting and restoring older John Deere tractors. Mr. Gehron also spent hours researching genealogies. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, and visiting the cabin he built in the mountains. He was a lifelong avid Baltimore Orioles fan. Kathryn L. Eshelman, 75, of Quarryville, PA, passed away Tuesday, May 12, 2015 at her home. She was the wife of Gerald Eshelman with whom she shared 57 years of marriage. Born in Nottingham, PA, she was the daughter of the late Clarence F. and Mary L. Sheer Frick. Kathryn was a member of Oxford United Methodist Church. Gladys M. Miller, 79, of Mason Court, Lancaster, PA passed into the arms of Christ, with her loving family surrounding her, on May 12, 2015 at Hospice & Community Care, Mt Joy. She was the widow of C. Darwin “Sam” Miller. Born in Bart Township, she was the daughter of the late Roy and Jean Graybill Swinehart. Gladys was a lifelong and active member of Refton Brethren in Christ Church and the Refton Fire Company Auxiliary. She had been employed by Shank’s Extract, Inc. for 33 years as a production worker, retiring in September 2014. She had also been employed by Slaymaker Poultry at both their Philadelphia and Lancaster Central Market stands. She was an avid Philadelphia sports fan, enjoying the Phillies, Eagles, & 76ers. She was also a very loving grandmother to her grandchildren and great grandchildren. The family wishes to thank Hospice & Community Care for the excellent services and care that was extended to their mother. Douglas McArthur "Mac" Sheets Sr. of Peach Bottom died on Tuesday, May 12, 2015. He was 73. Mr. Sheets was born in Peach Bottom, a son of the late Jesse and Beulah Caldwell Sheets. He was a self-employed logger and sawmill operator. Mr. Sheets was a member of the Southern Lancaster County Farmer Sportsman Association. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and gardening. |
