J. Thomas Lefever, 73, of Quarryville, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, April 9, 2021. Born in Lancaster, he was the son of the late Richard B. and Marian E. (Nolt) Lefever. He was the loving husband of Patricia L. (Toms) Lefever for over 51 years. The driving force in Pastor Tom’s life was the biblical call found in 1 Cor.4:2 “Moreover it is required in stewards that one be found faithful”. Tom saw his life through that lens, whether as a husband to Patty for 51 years, as a father, grandfather, pastor, brother, son, neighbor and friend to many. Tom was always willing to sacrifice and lay down his life to serve and care for others. He longed to be faithful to his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, and he faithfully proclaimed that message throughout his life. Paul E. Flaig, 90, of Quarryville, formerly of Langhorne, passed away on Friday, April 9, 2021 at his home. He was the beloved husband of Suzanne L. (Ellner) Flaig, with whom he shared 66 years of marriage. Born in Jackson County, Missouri, he was the son of the late Christian and Lora (Hugell) Flaig. Paul was a graduate of Hall’s Memorial High School in Missouri, class of 1948. After high school, he attended college for 2 ½ years, and then joined the military. Paul proudly served in the Air Force for 8 years, attaining the rank of Technical Sergeant. He then went on to own and operate a successful lunch truck business. He also worked part-time in the mailroom at the Philadelphia Inquirer. It is with deep sorrow that we mourn the passing of Margaret Alta Black in her 98th year. She passed away on Friday, April 9, 2021 at home. Margaret was born on the family farm in Fulton Township on November 30, 1922. She was the daughter of the late Roy and Katheryn Eckman Black. She attended the Fulton High School through the 11th grade and then graduated from Quarryville High School in 1940 after completing her senior year of her secondary education. Margaret furthered her educational the St. Joseph’s School of Medical Technology. Upon completing her studies, she went to work at the Poly Clinic Medical Center in Harrisburg. While working at the Poly Clinic, Margaret enrolled at Lebanon Valley College receiving a Bachelor of Science degree in Medical Technology. In 1987, she retired from the Poly Clinic after 42 years of service. Margaret was active in her community, being a member of the Astronomy Society of Harrisburg, the former Drumore Flower Club, Ware Village Auxiliary, Solanco Historical Society, and the American Society of Medical Technology. Glenn Stauffer Hess, 87, formerly of New Providence, entered into rest on Tuesday, April 6, 2021 at the Quarryville Presbyterian Retirement Community. Born in Strasburg, he was the son of the late Clarence R. and Gertrude (Stauffer) Hess. He was the loving husband of Wanda (Funk) Hess for over 68 years. Glenn farmed locally for many years and had owned and operated Hess’s Snack Wagon, which could be seen making rounds in Quarryville and surrounding communities and at the Buck Tractor Pull. He also worked for Howard E. Groff Inc. in Quarryville as an oil burner mechanic and was a life-member of Rough and Tumble. Dorothy E. Vesey, 82, of Willow Street, formerly of Richmond, VA and Sterling, VA, passed away on Friday, April 2, 2021 at Quarryville Presbyterian Retirement Community. She was the loving wife of the late John Barnett Vesey, with whom she shared 40 years of marriage at the time of his passing in 2002. Born in Saugerties, NY, she was the daughter of the late John and Mary (Cotton) Lasher. Dorothy was a high school graduate and attended a one-room schoolhouse in Saugerties, NY. She then went on to attend The King’s College in Briarcliff Manor, NY, and graduate with a bachelor’s degree in civics. In addition to caring for her family and her home, Dorothy worked in the field of Christian Education, serving as a teacher in various schools and also helping to establish a school in New Jersey. Anna Lee Ebersole, 80, of Kirkwood passed away Thursday, April 1, 2021 at Hospice and Community Care, Mount Joy. Born in Lewisville, she was the daughter of the late Brian and Betty Bare Shepherd. Anna retired from Avon in Newark, DE and Fergusson and Hassler in Quarryville. Anna played the piano and organ and enjoyed her grandchildren, cooking and her cat. She is survived by three sons, David Fisher (Christa) of Quarryville, Bob Fisher (Kelly) of Lancaster and Richard Fisher (Nora) of Lancaster; 13 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; one brother, Gale Shepherd of Kirkwood; three sisters, Ann Greer of Lancaster, Georgie Stanley of Rising Sun, MD and Louise West of Wickenburg, AZ. Mary Fenstermacher Zell, 88, of Oxford, passed away Saturday, April 3, 2021 at Ware Presbyterian Village, Oxford.
She was the wife of the late Clifford H. Zell, Jr. Born in Unionville, she was the daughter of the late William and Esther Hall Fenstermacher. She was a member of Unionville Presbyterian Church. Mary retired from the Oxford Area School District as a cafeteria employee. She enjoyed puzzles, playing solitaire, watching ice skating, Philadelphia Eagles and Phillies and especially spending time with her family. Nancy L. Young, 93, formerly of Peach Bottom, entered into rest on Thursday, April 1, 2021 at Quarryville Presbyterian Retirement Community. Born in Kinzers, she was the daughter of the late Arthur S. and Luetta M. (Shaeffer) Young. She had been married to the late Ray M. Young for over 61 years. Nancy was a homemaker and had worked as a book keeper for the family business, Young Brothers Dairy in Peach Bottom. She was an active member of Faith Reformed Presbyterian Church, where she served as organist, pianist, and choir director for many years. She was also a part of the church's O.W.L.S. group for seniors. Nancy enjoyed crocheting and spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. On April 1st 2021, the world lost a good man. That is how he would want to be remembered by all who knew and loved him. He was simply a good man. Wilson Edward Weeks Sr. of New Providence, PA is survived by his loving wife of 43 years Ruth, and four children. His first born and namesake Wilson Weeks, Jr. of Honeybrook, PA. His only daughter and go to problem solver Candice Davis, wife of his bonus son Sandy of Lancaster, PA. His artistic and ambitious son Derek Weeks, husband of Heather of Waynesboro, PA, and his youngest son and best friend Sean Weeks of New Providence. He also leaves as gifts to this world the joy of his grandchildren: Morgan, Connor, Lila, Logan and Stella. He is survived by his sister Barbara Pearson, wife of Timothy of Bentonville, VA, his aunt Betty Jean Rittenour of Leesburg, VA. and many nieces and nephews that will miss him dearly. Janet I. Janet I. Flora, 87, of New Providence, entered into rest on Thursday, April 1, 2021 at Hospice and Community Care. Born in Lancaster, she was the daughter of the late Arthur and Mary (Conway) Wein. She was married to the late Charles F. Flora who passed in 1995. Janet worked as a L.P.N. at the former Community Hospital in Lancaster and had also worked as a home care nurse with the Visiting Angels. She attended New Providence Church of God and enjoyed doing various crafts. |
