Jerry Allan Beatty, Sr., 83, of Strasburg Township, formerly of Lampeter and Strasburg, passed away on Tuesday, March 21, 2023 at Lancaster General Hospital after a hard-fought battle with illness. He was the beloved husband of Barbara Ann (Ecenrode) Beatty. Born in Colemanville, he was the son of the late Flora Beatty. Jerry was a talented “jack-of-all-trades” individual, performing plumbing, electrical, carpentry, and mechanical work for various manufacturing companies and property management companies over the years. During his lifetime, Jerry attended Colemanville United Methodist Church, Wesley United Methodist Church in Strasburg, and Kinzer Mennonite Church. To those that knew Jerry, he had a good sense of humor and never passed up an opportunity to play a trick on someone. He enjoyed being outside enjoying nature and working around the house in the vegetable and flower gardens. Jerry also looked forward to helping Barb with projects and he loved being her best friend and soulmate. Calvin Franklin Frett, 90, of Quarryville Presbyterian Retirement Community died Tuesday, March 213/24/2023
Calvin “Cal” or “PopPop” of Quarryville Presbyterian Retirement Community died peacefully by Dorothy Frett, his loving bride of 64 years. He entered this world in Camden, NJ, February 21, 1933, and was the 3rd child to the late Harry & Louise Frett. He was also pre-deceased by his sister Eleanor Carroll (Joe), his brother Harry Frett (Marie), and his younger sister Charlotte McAlack (John). He leaves behind his beloved wife “Dot” or “Nana,” his 3 children, Dan Frett (Ruth), Jan DeBoer (John), and Pam Strandquist (Mark); his 14 grandchildren, Joshua (Freya), Park, Luke, C. Summer, Eric (Alicia), Callie (Jonathan), Calvin (Shannon), Noah (Doreen), Lucy, Lance, Abigail, Nate, Aby, & Aly; and 7 great-grandchildren, Leiliana, Maverick, Ezra, Selah, Iris, Arya & Leland. Richard J. "Dick" Alexander, Sr., 76, of Quarryville, entered into rest unexpectedly at his home on Tuesday, March 21, 2023. Born in Philadelphia, he was the son of the late Howard and Anna Jean (Francis) Alexander. He was the loving husband of Isabelle (Gillin) Alexander for 54 years. Dick was a veteran of the U.S. Navy and had retired from PECO Energy after 31 years. Dick was passionate about bowling; playing and coaching younger bowlers at the former Garden Spot Bowling Alley in Strasburg and also Dutch Lanes in Ephrata. He was a member of the United States Bowling Congress and St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church. Craig Alan Deibler, 68, of Quarryville, went home to his heavenly Father on Sunday March 19th, 2023. He was the beloved husband of Lisa (Kronman) Deibler with whom he shared 23 years. He was the son of Kenneth and Jane (Aukamp) Zieber. In addition to his wife, he is survived by three children: Jeromy (Jennifer Ells), Derik, and Sarah Deibler. He was also grandfather to five grandchildren: Hutch, Sadie Claire, Alli, Kara and Cameryn. Also surviving is a brother, Blake Deibler (Lisa) two sisters, Donna (Deibler) Smith (Charlie) and Rebecca (Zieber) Schwabe (Andrew). Born in Lancaster, he was a graduate of Solanco High School, class of 1972 where he participated on the basketball team and in the musicals Lil’ Abner, Charlie Brown and Carnival. He and a friend then opened C&R Motors, after which he worked at Toyota-Mazda on Manheim Pike as a salesman. He continued on to be President and Part Owner of Lancaster County Motors. Craig’s soul was full of song and he envisioned and created Lifesong Christian Books and Music with his longtime friend. Amy Elizabeth Doyle, 33, of Quarryville, PA, received her angel wings on Monday, March 13, 2023, with her loving family beside her. She fought a long, hard, and courageous battle, but her faith never faltered. She used that faith to persevere throughout the years. She is survived at home by her parents, Mark S. and Laureen G. (Gundy) Doyle, a dedicated and loving brother, Andrew K. Doyle, her loyal service dog, Abby (aka Boo Boo), and her fiancé, John Hostetter. Amy graduated from Solanco High School, HACC, and Eastern University, where she earned a degree in Humanities. She loved helping other people. Amy loved to read, paint, cook, and garden. She loved spending time with her family at the beach, traveling, or just at home for family game nights. She recently won the super bowl in the family’s Fantasy Football league. Reverend Michael Scott "Mike" Miller, 62, died at Lancaster General Hospital Sunday, March 193/22/2023
Reverend Michael Scott “Mike” Miller, 62, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, March 19, 2023 at Lancaster General Hospital after a hard-fought battle with cancer. He was the beloved husband of Donna D. Miller, with whom he shared 43 years of marriage. Born in Lancaster, he was the son of Helen Appleton Miller of Holtwood, and the grandson of the late Charles and Thelma Miller. Mike was a graduate of Penn Manor High School, class of 1978, where he earned the nickname “Mole”. Mike earned an associate’s degree from Penn State University and then began his working career as a lawn care and landscaping professional, working for Lancaster Country Club and Tomlinson and Bomberger. He later owned and operated Tucquan Property Services, LLC. When Mike sensed the call to enter ministry, he attended Wesley Seminary in Washington, D.C. and completed a Course of Study in preparation to be a pastor. As a pastor, Mike served at Pleasant Grove U.M.C., Mount Hope U.M.C., Stehman Memorial U.M.C., and Rawlinsville U.M.C. He also served as an Assistant Spiritual Leader for Rawlinsville Camp Meeting. Karen Lesley died at home on Wednesday, March 15, 2023, surrounded by family and friends after a year-long struggle with colon cancer. She was born in Lancaster, PA, on August 22, 1958, a daughter of the late Hugh Lesley and Ruth (Hammell) Lefever of Oxford, PA. Karen was the quintessential Lancaster County farm girl. She grew up helping raise crops and chickens and spent her childhood summers pruning Christmas trees and squishing bag worms! She was a 1976 graduate of Solanco High School and went on to proudly earn her BS in Textile Design at Philadelphia College of Textiles and Science. She worked in the apparel industry at Lady Hamilton, Bonny Bunting, Masters Tuxedo, and Moving Comfort. In 1986, during a trip to visit to her brother in Monterey, CA, she met her husband, Ronald Rice, a student at the Naval Postgraduate School. They married in 1987. She then embarked on the life of a navy spouse, moving multiple times during her husband’s assignments in northern Virginia, Washington DC, Virginia Beach, Stuttgart Germany, and Norfolk VA, before finally building their retirement home in Airville, PA, calling it Dog Run Acres to reflect their love of their pets. Karen was an enthusiastic traveler who thoroughly enjoyed being stationed in Germany where she travelled extensively across Europe. David S. Metzler, 82, of Quarryville, passed away on Friday, March 17, 2023 at Lancaster General Hospital. Born in Holtwood, he was the son of the late Isaac H. Metzler and the late Grace (Stauffer) Metzler. He was the loving husband of Mary Lou “Midge” (Warfel) Metzler for 62 years. David worked as a Diesel Mechanic and was a member of Rawlinsville United Methodist Church for 50 years. In his younger years, he was a member of the Rawlinsville Fire Co. David loved riding his motorcycle, traveling, family gatherings, especially Sunday dinners and hosting the annual Thanksgiving dinner with his siblings. Winona M. Nyeste, 99, of Quarryville, Pa was received into the loving arms of her Lord and Savior on March 13, 2023. She was a resident of Quarryville Presbyterian Retirement Community from 2013 until her passing. She was born to the late William and Eva Hein on March 29, 1923 near Westerville, Nebraska. Winona was raised in the town of Ansley, Nebraska, graduated from Ansley High School and attended college in Nebraska. Following college courses she moved with several girlfriends to Washington, DC in the early part of World War II working in the secretarial pool to support the war effort. Her apartment in Washington, DC was so close to the zoo that she could hear the lions roar at night. While working in DC, she met and married John J Nyeste in 1946. He was a US Marine Corp sergeant at the time. They settled in John’s hometown of Windber, Pa after the war. Arlene K. Ross, age 91, of Paradise, passed away at her home on Saturday, March 18, 2023. She was the wife of the late Jack Ross, who passed away on April 17, 2019. She was born in Bart Township, daughter of the late John M. Sr. and Hannah Gilbert Keene. She was a member of the Georgetown United Methodist Church where she served as treasurer for many years and sang in the choir. . She was a homemaker, also in the past working for RCA and a school bus driver for Althouse Transportation. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, crossword and jigsaw puzzles, baking, canning, vegetable and flower gardening, traveling, bowling and playing cards especially Pinochle. |
