Elma M. Pownall of New Providence died on Saturday, March 8, 2014. She was 93. Mrs. Pownall was born in Little Britain, where her parents operated the general store. She was a lifelong member of Little Britain Presbyterian Church. Mrs. Pownall is survived by two sons, Lester, husband of Jo Pownall of Drumore, and Larry, husband of Diane Pownall of Mesa, Ariz.; six grandchildren; and several great-great-grandchildren. Sara Moore Ankrum of Willow Street died at home on Wednesday, March 12, 2014. She was 98.
Mrs. Ankrum was born in Mechanic Grove, East Drumore Township, a daughter of the late Russell G. and Maizie Snyder Moore. She was a lifelong resident of Lancaster County. She moved to Willow Street in 1966. Dwayne William Boelter of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, died on Friday, March 7, 2014. He was 67. Mr. Boelter was born in Jamestown, North Dakota, a son of the late William Frederick and Inez Luella Hogden Boelter. He worked as an electrical engineer for Alliant Energy, Cedar Rapids, until he retired. Isaac Diller Miller III of York died at the Harrisburg Hospital on Friday, March 7, 2014. He was 61.
Mr. Miller was the son of I. Diller Miller Jr. and the late Betty Kilp Miller. He lived in Quarryville before moving to York. Services will be held in the Quarryville Cemetery at a later date. Arrangements were made through Reynolds Funeral and Cremation Services, Quarryville. Arne Walter Johnsen of Quarryville died at Lancaster General Hospital on Tuesday, March 11, 2014. He was 88. Mr. Johnsen was born in Brooklyn, N.Y., a son of the late Petter August and Nancy Haabesland Johnsen. During World War II, he served as a Seaman 1st Class aboard the U.S.S. Miami. Following the war, he worked for the telephone company in New York and retired from Siemens in 1989. Jeanne L. Toms Goodrich of Strasburg died at home on Monday, March 10, 2014. She was 56. Mrs. Goodrich was born in Philadelphia, a daughter of the late Robert and Florence Crozier Toms. She worked for the Lancaster County Register of Wills. Mrs. Goodrich enjoyed baking, antiques, and spending time with her family. Daniel C. Ressler of Scheller Rd., New Providence, died on Thursday, March 13, 2014. He was 62. Mr. Ressler was born in Lancaster, a son of the late Charles A. and Thelma Rauser Ressler. He was also the stepson of the late D. Susan Bushong Ressler. During the Vietnam War, he served as a SP4 in the U.S. Army. Richard E. Jackson of Nottingham died at home on Friday, March 14, 2014. He was 65. Mr. Jackson was born in Sylmar, Md., a son of the late Joseph and Grace Kreider Jackson. He worked for Herr Foods Inc., Nottingham, for 25 years and for Tastykake Inc., Philadelphia, for 15 years. He retired as a school bus driver for the Oxford Area School District. Mr. Jackson was a member of Nottingham Presbyterian Church and the Oxford Athletic Association. Richard C. Stauffer of Little Britain died on Saturday, March 1, 2014. He was 71.
Mr. Stauffer was a son of Ruth E. Stauffer and the late Paul R. Stauffer. He lived in Nickel Mines before moving to Little Britain. Matthew John Mullins of E. Philadelphia St., York, died in York on Sunday, March 2, 2014. He was 27. Mr. Mullins was born in West Chester, a son of Susan Walker Mullins and Gerald Johnson of Kennett Square and Ricky Mullins of West Grove. He worked as a general maintenance mechanic for an auto dealership in York. Mr. Mullins enjoyed sports, cars, and music. |
