Robert G. Hershberger, age 84, of Quarryville, PA, entered into the presence of his Lord Jesus on Monday, February 17, 2020 at Quarryville Presbyterian Retirement Community. He was the husband of the late Martha A. High Hershberger who died on May 23, 2012 and the late Leta Hershberger. Born in New Enterprise, PA he was the son of the late Ross and Cleo Detwiler Hershberger. He and his wife, Martha purchased their farm in Quarryville in 1965, and raised their children on their dairy and poultry farm until his retirement in 2005. In retirement he enjoyed transporting his Amish friends and neighbors. M. Ruth Sangrey, 87, of Smithville, went home to her Lord and Savior on Sunday, February 16, 2020. Born in Providence Township, daughter of the late John C. and Mary A. (Warfel) Rineer. She leaves behind her devoted husband of 67 years, Harold (Buz) A, Sangrey. She is also survived by two children, Dianne M. Fisher (Abram) of Lancaster and Michael A. Sangrey (Cheryl) of Holtwood; three grandchildren, Chris Dearolf, Ashley Kauffman, and Amanda Sangrey; seven great grandchildren; a sister, Nancy Benedict (John) of New Providence. She was also preceded in death by five brothers, Martin, J. Paul, Walter, Earl, and Ray; two sisters, Edna and Freeda. Amber Lynn (Hamson) Wu, 28, of Vienna, VA, formerly of Quarryville, passed away on Sunday, February 9, 2020, due to complications from a medical condition. She was the beloved wife of Peng James Wu, whom she married on December 3, 2018. Born in West Chester, she was the daughter of Jennifer (Talley) Rohrer, of Quarryville, and Douglas C. Hamson, of Cochranville. Amber attended Octorara High School through her sophomore year and was an avid field hockey player there. She then attended Solanco High School, graduating in 2009. She went on to work as a cashier in retail establishments and she enjoyed babysitting for local families. In her younger years, Amber was involved in Girl Scouts and she attended summer pony camps. Having many interests, she enjoyed listening to all kinds of music, horseback riding, and crocheting. When watching television, she would regularly watch cooking shows and she was a fan of The Big Bang Theory. Amber loved spending the summers at her great-grandmother’s beach home in Rehoboth Beach. She enjoyed traveling, having visited Canada, Ireland, and Las Vegas. Amber also had a passionate interest in owls, dolphins, wolves, and sunflowers, and she collected antique teacups. Yvonne B. Wood, 83, of Quarryville, entered into rest on Friday, February 14, 2020 at her home.
Born in Mount Vernon, she was the daughter of the late Stanley R., and Etta O. Brown. She was married to the late John P. Herr and the late Roy L. Wood, Jr. Yvonne retired from Herr Foods after 15 years of employment. She was a gifted homemaker and loved spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Yvonne enjoyed taking bus trips and could often be seen walking around town having friendly chats with her neighbors. Marlin E. “Hersh” Hershey, 78, of Downingtown, passed away on Thursday, February 13, 2020 at University of Penn Hospital after suffering a massive stroke. He had been in failing health for many years. Born in Lancaster, he was the son of the late John E., and Caroline (Benedict) Hershey. He was the loving husband of Mary (Weiler) Hershey for 51 years. Hersh grew up in Quarryville and was a 1959 graduate of Solanco High School. He attended Millersville University before enlisting in the United States Navy. Marlin served two tours in Vietnam and was awarded the Navy “V” for valor. He worked for IBM for over 30 years and had also been employed by Weidenhammer Systems. After retiring, he started a small home repair business. He was an active, life-long member of Zion U.C.C., where he served as deacon and Sunday school supervisor. Hersh enjoyed all sports, especially golf from the perspective of player, coach, and spectator. He made regular trips to Alabama to play. Clair N. Blantz, 78, formerly of Marietta, died Thursday, February 13, 2020 at Manor Care, Sinking Springs, PA. He and his wife Helen Stockbauer Blantz were married in May of 2006. Born in Lancaster, he was the son of the late Walter and Katherine Drescher Blantz, Sr. Clair was previously employed as an assembler and machine operator for Tyco, in Mt Joy, and then as a meat packer for Kunzler Meats from 1974-1992 from which he retired. He attended Shiloh Tabernacle in Quarryville. He enjoyed going to Green Dragon Market and going for walks. Lura M Keene, 98, of 300 Willow Valley Lakes Drive, Willow Street, died Tuesday morning, February 11th, 2020, after a short bout with pneumonia. Lura was born in Sparta, NC to Donley and Vena Anderson in 1921. She was married to Charles Keene for 53 years. She resided in Quarryville for 59 years before moving to Willow Street. She served at St. Paul’s Church as a trustee, president of The Women’s Fellowship for several years and was active in various organizations. She helped to fund and decorate the library at St. Paul’s Church. She started a Love Mission for Solanco area children in need. “It’s all about showing others love and seeing their smiles and happy faces,” Lura said of the Love Mission. Wayne D. Axe, 56, of Quarryville, PA, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, February 8, 2020 at Lancaster General Hospital. He was the husband of Lynn Christine Walton Axe. He was the son of the late Jere S. and Sara Pletcher Axe. Wayne had currently been working at Kellogg Co., Lancaster, and had previously been employed for over 20 years at the former RR Donnelley Corp., Lancaster. Wayne enjoyed riding his Harley and cooking. He was a member of the Riverside Club, Lancaster. Kevin Scott Icenhour, 50, of Little Britain, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, February 9, 2020, due to injuries sustained in a car accident. Born in Lancaster, he was the son of Beverly (Stoner) Icenhour and the late Robert Fred Icenhour. Kevin was a proud graduate of Solanco’s class of 1988 and spent most of his life as a drywall hanger and finisher. Anyone that knew Kevin knew he was full of life and never held a grudge. He always had a joke to tell or a prank to pull. He was always willing to lend a helping hand to anyone in need. In addition to his mother, Kevin is survived by his children, Cole Adams, of New Providence, Gage Icenhour and Linsi Icenhour, both of New Providence, and Austin Icenhour, of Quarryville; brothers, Paul Icenhour, and wife Nancy, of Little Britain, and Russel Icenhour, and wife Ann, of Quarryville; and his nieces, A.J. and Ally. In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by his grandparents and two uncles, Bob and Charlie Stoner. Shirley Jean Loraw, 70, of Holtwood, entered into rest unexpectedly at her home on Tuesday, February 11, 2020. Born in Lancaster, she was the daughter of the late Kenneth W. and Jean E. (Brown) Bradford. She was the loving wife of Daniel R. Loraw, Sr. for over 50 years. Shirley was a 1968 graduate of Solanco High School.
