Beverly I. McVey, 80, of Quarryville, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, February 22, 2017, after a courageous battle with cancer. Beverly was born in Lancaster County to the late William Donohue and Alice Landis. Her time was full of laughter and she will be remembered by her contagious smile and joy for life. She enjoyed spending her time playing bingo, word search puzzles, shopping and sitting on the beach. Most of all she loved spending time with her family. Louise M. Ressel, 88, of Quarryville, entered into rest on Tuesday, February 21, 2017. Her husband, Fred H. Ressel died in 1980. Louise was born in Lancaster County and spend most of her life as a waitress working at several local restaurants. When not working and following retirement she enjoyed playing pinochle and going to yard sales but most of all she cherished her time sitting on her front porch visiting with her family and friends. Rex A. Sheetz, 64, of Rising Sun, Maryland, entered into rest unexpectedly on Sunday, February 19, 2017. Born in Lancaster, PA, he was the son of the late John D. & Ruth K. (Brown) Sheetz. Rex was a 1972 graduate of Solanco High School. He enjoyed being a truck driver most of his life and loved driving a good fast truck. He loved his family, children, scouting, motorcycles, fast cars, tractors, and guns. Rex never met a stranger and could chat with anyone for hours, even if he had just met them. He was a kind hearted, gentile soul, who loved to tell stories and was best at making people laugh even in the toughest situations. Richard E. “Dick” Lefever, Jr. 75, of Pequea, entered into rest on Sunday, February 19, 2017. Born in Quarryville, he was a son of the late Richard E., and Kathryn (Hess) Lefever. He was preceded in death by his wife, Janet L. (Miller) Lefever and his second wife, Virginia A. Smith. Dick grew up on farms in Lancaster County and was a 1959 graduate of Solanco High School. He was employed by Burkholder Quality Cars for 23 years. He went on to work for Moats Service Center until his retirement in 2007. Dick was a proud veteran of the U.S. Army having served in Vietnam with the 21st Field Artillery and the 1st Calvary Division. Dick enjoyed hunting, race cars, and old Massey Harris tractors. He was a charter member of Friends of Massey Harris, Inc. and served on the board of directors for over 10 years. He also belonged to the Massey Collectors Assn. Dick restored tractors and won many awards for his work. He also wrote articles that were published in the Massey Harris Ferguson Legacy Magazine. Dorothy L. Herr, 87, of Quarryville, PA, passed away February 17, 2017. She was the widow of the late John C. Herr who passed away in 1988. Born in Strasburg Township, a daughter of the late Chester and Anna Mowrer Geib. Dorothy was a lifetime member of Zion United Church of Christ, Strasburg. She enjoyed bowling, fishing, her roses, playing pinochle and making homemade candy. She will be dearly missed by her family and friends. Howard L. Wiggins, 84, of Quarryville, PA, passed away on Monday, February 13, 2017. Howard had retired after 33 years as a welder with Armstrong World Industry, Lancaster, PA, and 20 years with Lancaster Host Resort. Howard had proudly served in the US Air Force during the Korean War. Born in Quarryville PA, a son of the late Earl V. and Ruth Kessler Wiggins. Howard enjoyed sports, and especially enjoyed life, and spending time with his boys. James J. Diffendarfer passed away on Friday February 10, 2017. He was 19 years old. James was born on August 5, 1997 in Lancaster, Pa. to Joel Diffendarfer and Janie Bowman. James graduated from Penn Foster High School at the age of 16. James was currently employed at Skyline Homes as an electrician. James was an extremely intelligent, inventive, self-confident young man as well as a very talented artist. He had a deep love for camping, biking, tinkering, and spending time with all his nieces and nephews. James’ life and spirit deeply touched every person that was fortunate enough to know him. James was cherished and loved by his family and friends and will be greatly missed. Hazel M. Jones, 83, of Willow Street, entered into rest on Saturday, February 4, 2017. Born in Peach Bottom, she was the daughter of the late Lawrence and Elizabeth (Weaver) Brown. Hazel worked for the Acme Food Store in Lancaster. She was of strong faith and was an active member of Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church. Hazel enjoyed playing cards and spending time with her family. Adra Sullivan Jesberg, 86, of Christiana PA, formerly of Kirkwood, PA passed away on Sunday, February 5, 2017 at her home. She was the wife of the late T.H. Sullivan, and Rev. John Jesberg Adra was born in Spotsylvania VA, a daughter of the late Lawrence and Lillian Sullivan Hicks. She was a beautician, operating her own business in Kirkwood for many years. She was an active longtime member of Colerain Baptist Church. Charles Patrick Michener, age 69, passed away on February 3, 2017 at the home of his son, Donald. He was lovingly known as "Pat".
He was born in Charleroi, PA. As a very young child, his family moved to Fairless Hills, PA where he grew up. He fought the hard battle of cancer, but sadly lost. He is survived by his two sons, Donald Michener of Nottingham, PA husband of Jill Michener, Steven Michener of Austin TX, and his granddaughter Abby Michener, Austin, TX. He is also survived by his siblings; Dona Hullihen wife of James Hullihen, Myrtle Beach, SC, Lila Resh wife of Bruce Resh, Ridgeland, SC, James Michener husband of Kim Michener, Ephrata, PA, and a myriad of nieces and nephews and their children. He was preceded in death by his parents, Donald and Margaret Michener. Pat was witty and had an artful way of looking at life. He was loved by friends and family. Younger generations called him "Uncle Pat" whether they were related or not. Uncle Pat had a way of observing situations and adding his commentary, letting all present know that he never missed a thing. He also displayed incredibly sweet moments at unexpected times that endeared him to the hearts of others. |
