Cynthia "Cindy" L. Bollinger, age 68, of Quarryville, passed away on Thursday, January 21, 2021, following a 3 month battle with Calciphylaxis. She was the wife of C. Dale Bollinger with whom she celebrated 49 years of marriage on November 27th. She was born in Lancaster, daughter of the late G. Daniel, Sr. & Elfrieda “Fritz” Knudsen Baughman. She was a member of the Mechanic Grove Church of the Brethren, where she was co-chair of the kitchen committee and a Sunday School teacher. She graduated from Solanco High School, class of 1970 and attended college for a semester. She worked in food service for the Quarryville Elementary School for 30 years, serving as manager retiring in 2020. She was the secretary for the dairy committee for the Solanco Fair for 50 years. Cindy was Solanco Fair’s Grand Marshal in 2019. She was also involved with Farm Women #31, was a 4-H sewing leader, served on the SLC Home Economics Advisory Board, was honored as SLC Fair Harvest Queen and SLC FFA Sweetheart. William C. “Bill” Fuller, 87, of Little Britain, passed away peacefully at his home on Wednesday, January 20, 2021. He was the beloved husband of Marilyn A. (Uvegas) Fuller, with whom he shared 55 years of marriage. Born in Little Britain, he was the son of the late Claude B. and Esther L. (Hays) Fuller. Bill was a graduate of Quarryville High School, class of 1951. Bill was a life-long dairy farmer. He enjoyed tractor pulls as well as spending time with his beloved family. In addition to his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Teresa Fuller, wife of Kevin Rooney, and his granddog, Diesel. He is also survived by two sisters, Eleanor F. Groff and Sandra F. Wiker, wife of John E. Wiker, Sr. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Robert Fuller. May S. Bird, 99, of Quarryville, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, January 20, 2021 at the Quarryville Presbyterian Retirement Community. Born in Plainfield, New Jersey, she was the daughter of the late John T. and May (Biederstadt) Siercks. She was the loving wife of the late L. Raymond Bird. May was known for her generosity and actively participated with several Christian and charitable organizations, especially in her community of Plainfield, New Jersey. In recent years, she had attended Faith Reformed Presbyterian Church. Alberta M. “Bert” Nilan, 84, of New London, PA passed away Sunday, January 17, 2021 at home. Born in Kemblesville, PA she was the daughter of the late Albert Raymouth and Anna Irene Hunter Mote. Bert was an active member of the Landenberg United Methodist Church and attended New London Methodist Church where she sang in the New London Community Choir. She owned and operated with her son, Tim Sylmar Products, Oxford for 13 years. In 1954, Bert was crowned May Queen of Avon Grove High School. She received her Secretary of Student Nurses Associates of DE in 1957 from Memorial Hospital, Wilmington, DE. In 1957, she attended the International Nurses Convention in Rome, Italy and was in the audience with Pope Pius XII and attended a nurses’ convention in Chicago, IL where she saw John Wayne and Lowell Thomas. Edna Earle Miller, 72, of Oxford, PA passed away Friday, January 15, 2021 at Jennersville Regional Hospital, West Grove. She was the wife of James Miller with whom she shared 56 years of marriage. Born in Wilmington, DE she was the daughter of Catherine Ellsworth Smith of Dover, DE and the late Conrad Smith. Edna enjoyed playing cards, traveling, collecting angels and especially loved her children and grandchildren. She is survived by her husband; mother; three children, Timothy Miller (Deborah) of Nottingham, Dawn Vanderhoef (John) of Palmyra and Brian Miller of Oxford; seven grandchildren, Brandon Miller (Kelly), Matthew Miller (Jen), Paul Skinner, Casey Skinner (Meghan), Adam Miller (Sarah), Julia Miller and Rachel Miller; three great-grandchildren, Aiden Miller, Elora Miller and Gwen Miller; and four siblings, Kathleen Robinson of Dover, DE, Agnes Brown (Arthur) of Lenoir, NC, Edward Smith (Joann) of Middletown, DE and Doris Atizer (Chad) of Dover, DE. Kenneth Scott Crabtree, 60, of Quarryville, passed away unexpectedly at his home on Saturday, January 16, 2021.
Born in West Chester, he was the son of Henrietta (Butler) Crabtree and the late Elmer Crabtree. Deborah J. Wood, age 62 of Quarryville, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, January 14, 2021 at her home. She was the wife of Gary L. Wood whom she celebrated 30 years of marriage in September. Born in Newark, DE, she was the daughter of Bernard and Betty Robinson Barker. She graduated from Osceola High School in Kissimmee, FL, Class of 1976. Deborah worked for Herr’s Motor Express, L.M. Prange, and Willow Valley, as well as many small jobs. In her free time, she loved cross stitching, fishing, word searches, and spending time with her family and her 4 grandchildren: Emily, Brandi, Jason, and Evan. Deborah was an amazing cook and she loved taking care of her pets. Micheal D. Hohenwarter, 57, of Holtwood, died unexpectedly of natural causes at his residence on Wednesday, January 13, 2021. He was the husband of Diane M. DeCarlo Hohenwarter. Born in Lancaster, he is survived by his father and step-mother George F. and Mary Lou Hohenwarter, Jr. of Holtwood and his mother, Sandra L. Fisher of Ephrata. He was a 1982 graduate of Hempfield High School. Micheal was employed for over 20 years for Doodad Printing Company as a press operator. J. J. Everett Donache, II, 75, of Nottingham, PA, passed away Tuesday, January 12, 2021 at Hospice and Community Care, Mount Joy, PA. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and a friend to many. He was the husband of Donna Wimer Donache with whom he shared over 55 years of marriage. Born in West Grove, he was the son of the late John Everett (Jim) and Emily L. Berrell Donache and brother of the late Helen M. Stewart. Everett graduated from Oxford High School Class of 1963 and retired from General Motors, Wilmington, DE after 31 years. He served as Past Sachem for the Improved Order of Redmen, Tribe #212, Oxford. He was a past member of Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 2666, Oxford, Ancient Order of the Croaking Frogs, Quarryville, and Christiana American Legion Post 865, Christiana, PA. He was an honorary active member of the Union Fire Company #1 Fire and Ambulance Divisions, Oxford since May 1964, serving as Assistant Chief, Lieutenant, Chief Engineer, Ambulance Director, driver and attendant, and served as Captain and Lieutenant of the Rescue Squad. John Grant Flahart, 71, of Quarryville, passed away on Saturday, January 9, 2021 at Lancaster General Hospital. Born in Fort Belvoir, VA, he was the son of Clarence W. Flahart of Peach Bottom, and the late Ruby M. Hartsoe of Conowingo, MD. John was a diesel mechanic by trade. Before retirement, he proudly served as a fleet mechanic for Howard Groff Oil of Quarryville. Post retirement he also served with Elco Equipment of Quarryville. In his younger days, he served on Lennie Pond’s Pepsi Racing Team pit crew and built vehicles for tractor pulls and monster truck racing. |
