Barbara S. Brown, 78, of Doylestown, PA died Thursday, January 11, 2018 at Neshaminy Manor Nursing Home, Warrington, PA following a lengthy illness. She was the wife of W. Ray Brown, DVM. Born in Ithaca, NY, she was the daughter of the late Francis T. and Margaret P. Stone Spencer, Sr. Barbara was a member of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Doylestown. She enjoyed reading, going to their lake house at Cayuga Lake in NY, and attending Bible study with her dear friend Mary Leatherman. She was very astute at staying in contact and visiting family. Barbara attended Mt. Sinai School of Nursing and returned to Ithaca and was employed as an electron-microscopy technician at the College of Veterinary Medicine at Cornell University where she met and later married her husband Ray. At the completion of veterinary school the couple moved to Lansdale, PA in 1967 and then to Doylestown in 1970 where they established their Veterinary and Pathology Practice in New Britain, PA. Barbara assisted in the practice while she was able to do so. Margaret E. “Peg” Graetz, 89, of Quarryville, entered into the presence of the Lord she loved on Sunday, January 14, 2018, at Quarryville Presbyterian Retirement Community. She was the beloved wife of Edward A. Graetz, sharing 68 years of marriage together. Born in Summit, New Jersey, she was the daughter of the late Fred and Margaret (Feeney) Nuse. Peg was a graduate of Columbia High School in Maplewood, NJ. She was a homemaker, and loved caring for her family and others. Peg loved sewing, riding her bicycle, swimming, and eating apples. She was a member of Grace Church at Willow Valley. Peg was always involved in the churches she attended over the years, and she was very supportive of missions. She was a woman of deep faith, prayer, and encouragement, and she will be deeply missed. Glenn K. Hackman, 79, of Baumgardner Road, Willow Street, PA passed away on Saturday, January 13, 2018 at his residence following an extended illness. He and his wife, Edna Murry Hackman celebrated 46 years of marriage. Born in Lancaster County, he was the son of the late Samuel L. and Emily Kauffman Hackman. Glenn had previously been employed as a manager for Bayak Cigar Company in Lancaster for several years and completed his career as a truck driver for APA Transport. He enjoyed reading, hunting, fishing, and boating, and his property at Raystown Lake, but he especially loved his family and spending time with his grandchildren. Mildred J. Kauffman, 97, of Woodcrest Villa and formerly Conestoga, entered into rest on Friday, January 12, 2018. Born in Kirkwood, she was the daughter of the late Leavin H. and Louise Jackson. She was the wife of the late John Kauffman, Sr. who died in 2010. Mildred is survived by: Sidney Ann Catagnus (Jim) of Perkiomenville, Barbara Rudolph (Ernest) of Simpsonville, SC, Michael Shoemaker (Linda) of Quarryville, Peggy Moore (Gordie) of Willow Street, and Susan Housekeeper (Edwin) of Honey Grove, PA. Also surviving are; 10 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren and 2 sisters: Betty Miller and Hazel Shoemaker. Phyllis Mae Jones, 76, of Arcadia Trace Road, Peach Bottom PA died Wednesday, January 10, 2018 in Rising Sun, Md. She was the widow of Walter L. Jones, Sr. Born in Mud Fork, VA, she was the daughter of the late Isaac Dexter and Maggie Mae McClosky Jennings, Sr. Phyllis had been employed as a detonator assembler for AM-COM in Atglen, PA. She thoroughly enjoyed going to the Atlantic City Casinos and going fishing. Surviving her are 4 children, Diane P. (Jesse) McMillan of Little Britain, Walter L. (Patricia) Jones, Jr. of Rising Sun, MD, David M. (Judy) Jones of Rising Sun, MD, Sheila E. Jones, Peach Bottom; 16 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; a sister Minnie Hunnel; and a brother Clayton Jennings. Patricia M. “Patty” Jakubowski, 77, of Quarryville, formerly of Bear, Delaware, and Lanoka Harbor, New Jersey, passed away on Monday, January 8, 2018, at Quarryville Presbyterian Retirement Community. She was the wife of the late Richard E. Jakubowski, with whom she shared 35 years of marriage at the time of his passing in 2007. Born in Mount Joy, Pennsylvania, she was the daughter of the late Herman E. and Mary (Miller) Hartman. Patty was a graduate of Donegal High School, class of 1958. Following high school, she first worked for the Elizabethtown Police Department, and later as a school bus driver. Patty married in 1972, and moved to New Jersey with her husband Richard, where she cared for her home and family. Very active in the democratic party, Patty held the position of the highest-ranking Democrat in Ocean County, New Jersey, having many photos of herself with governors and other governmental officials. She also served as president of Deborah Heart and Lung Association, Pine Shore Chapter, and president of her housing community when she lived in Bear, Delaware. In the late 1980s, Patty owned and operated a decorative lampshade business. In her early years, Patty enjoyed visiting Atlantic City and going to the casinos. She also was an avid Baltimore Orioles fan. Hortense "Tensie" Eichelberger Keays, 87, of Lancaster, PA, passed away on January 7, 2018 (at the Lancaster Mennonite Home). She was predeceased by her husband, William "Bill" Lewis Keays, Sr., to whom she had been happily married to for 65 years. Tensie and Bill were blessed with three children, seven grandchildren, and nine great granddaughters. Growing up in Saxton, PA., Tensie was a 1947 graduate of Saxton Liberty High School. She earned her BS in education at Marycrest College in Davenport Iowa in 1965 in order to pursue her passion for teaching children. Tensie went on to earn a Master of Education from Millersville University in 1972. She taught over thirty years with the majority of them at Providence Elementary in the Solanco School District. After retirement, Tensie substituted in her local Amish community school. She also worked with the New Hope Community Life Ministries in Quarryville, PA, as an early representative from St. Michael's Lutheran Church congregation. She was a member of the educational sorority of Phi Delta Kappa, as well as a founding member of Norman's Mormans. William “Bill” H. Walker, 87, of Quarryville died Tuesday, January 9, 2018 at the Mennonite Home. He was 87. Born May 7, 1930 in Gap, he was the son of the late Mina Coates and Joseph Lewis Walker. Mr. Walker graduated from the former Cochranville High School in 1948. He served in the U.S. Army from 1954-1956. For 17 years, he was employed as a technician with Curtiss Breeding Services, Inc., working in southern Lancaster County. From 1960-2015, he had been a real estate agent, most recently with Berkshire Hathaway in the Quarryville office. Anna Barbara Gilbert Herr, 94, of Quarryville entered into rest on January 9, 2018. She was the daughter of the late George H. and Lillian (Gallagher) Gilbert. She was preceded in death by her husband, Wm. M. “Bill” Herr in 2008. Barbara was a co- owner of Quarryville TV; along with her husband. She was a Registered Nurse and very active in the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary. She is survived by her son, Bruce, husband of Donna, of Alamogordo, NM, and daughters, Cindy, wife of Larry Reed of Bradenton, FL, Barbara, wife of Jack Hoffert of Mandeville , LA. When Mitchell 'Mitch' White walked into a room, his presence was felt by all. On Saturday, January 6, 2018 our world felt the loss of this great man, as he gained his wings and crossed over to another adventure. Mitch was a man who loved and supported the community he lived and worked in. His younger years were spent on a hammermill working with some of his family, followed by some years as an over the road truck driver. He found his true calling as business owner, and Paradise Concrete led him to work closely with the Amish community he so loved and respected. Mitch continued as a personal driver even after retiring from the business world in 2008. |
